eEmergency Stroke Response


I.

Purpose
To help provide timely consultation/evaluation for those patients who
demonstrate a change in neurological status; specifically, motor, speech,
vision and/or sensation.
Ex:
1. Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, leg, particularly on one
side of the body.
2. Sudden confusion, trouble speaking
3. Sudden trouble walking, loss of balance or coordination or sudden onset of
dizziness.
4. Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
5. Sudden onset of severe headache that does not have an obvious cause.
In addition, eER will assist in meeting clinical performance benchmarking
measures. The end site and eER will work cooperatively to improve stroke
care at community access hospitals.

General Information
1. eEmergency-Physician and Registered nurse available 24 hours a day
Policy
When Wilson Medical Center has patient arrive with ANY of the above
symptoms after assessing ABCs, the ED staff will notify eEmergency
immediately of a Code Stroke. Prepare for STAT Head CT. eER will
assist with the following:
1. Have board certified ED physician available for early orders/treatment
plan
2. ED physician can look at preliminary CT imaging
3. Can contact on call neurologist for consult
4. Can provide nursing documentation including NIHSS scale
5. Can alert any other medical staff
6. Can assist with transfer if needed

1. Once the CT has been read the local provider will collaborate with the
eER MD on further participation of eER.
