Artifact Title: Sheboygan Falls High School Lesson Plan

Date: Spring 2015
Artifact Description:
This artifact is a lesson plan I created for a high school Spanish 1 class in Sheboygan Falls
while I was student teaching. The students were learning about different types of food and the
goal of the unit was to be able to express different types of foods that they like/dislike.
Alignment:
Wisconsin Teacher Standard Alignment:
This artifact best aligns with Standard 4: Instructional Strategies The teacher understands
and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage students development of critical
thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.
I believe this aligns with Standard 4 because it shows how I use multiple teaching and
learning strategies to engage the students and gradually shift the responsibility of learning
from my hands into the students hands. The students are offered time for individual content
review, group work, and language production through speaking, listening, and writing.
I am more competent now because I had an experience where I could see how each of
my students responded to the different activities and materials I used in class. As a teacher, I
will need to discover how my students like to learn, and adapt to make them successful in the
classroom.
UW-Platteville Knowledge, Skill, Disposition Alignment
This artifact best aligns with KSD1.b : The candidate displays knowledge of the typical
developmental characteristics, learning styles, skills, interests, developmental backgrounds,
and cultural heritages of students and is always aware of the broad ranges and variety
present for each of these student characteristics and lifestyles.
This artifact best aligns with KSD1.b because in order to have this lesson go
smoothly, I needed to be familiar with the different types of learners that were in my
classroom. I gave the students a variety of ways to help them become more familiar with the
vocabulary.
I am more competent as an educator because I was able to be flexible while still
achieving the learning goals of the lesson and unit. I presented the material in multiple ways
so that my students could fully understand the concepts and accomplish the learning
objectives.
Secondary KSDs:
KS1.e: Designs Coherent Instruction
KSD2.b: Establishes a Culture for Learning
KSD2.c: Manages Classroom Procedures

Reflection:
What I learned about teaching/learning from this experience:
I learned through this experience that not only do I need to be knowledgeable of the content, I
also need to be familiar with appealing methods of delivering that content. This is why many
people think that just because they are familiar with a certain topic, they would be a good
teacher. I also learned that students are the best resources for finding out how you should be
teaching.
What I learned about myself as a prospective educator as a result of this experience:
I learned that in-class formative and summative assessment is crucial to becoming the best
teacher I could possibly become. I think that I will use a lot of in-class assessment methods
when I am a teacher because it helps me reflect on my teaching and adapt to the needs of my
students.
