Where?
Marine Corps Base Quantico
The commandant of the Marine Corps established
Marine Barracks Quantico on May 14, 1917. Thousands were trained here during World War I, including units of the 4th Marine Brigade. In 1920, Marine

What?
OCS is the first step on the way to becoming
an officer in the Marine Coprs. There are two
courses available to officer candidates.

The first course is called the Platoon Leaders Class


(PLC). PLC is offered to qualified candidates who
are in there freshmen or sophomore year in college.
PLC consists of two 6-week training
sessions between school years.

During Service: While serving in the


Marine Corps, every Marine and his

The second course is the Officer Candidates


Course (OCC). This is a course for candidates
who are graduating from college and before
attending Officer Candidates School.

Air
As a Marine Corps Aviator, youll push your
own limits and those of our aircraft as you
carry out the mission of Marine Aviation-that of close air support for ground troops.

tip of the spear, which means our
pilots and Naval Flight Officers are at
the forefront of every operation.

Ground
The primary mission is close combat
ground war, so this is the backbone of
the Marine Corps. This is where the majority of Marines operate.

your command will look to you for
instruction and guidance. Its a
take-charge job with a lot at stake, but
thats the essence of leadership in the
corps.

law
As a judge advocate, youll have the
opportunity to work in a variety of
fields, such as criminal, international,
labor, environmental and family law.
And youll be able to do so from the very
beginning of your career in the Marine
Corps. Your initial assignment will most
likely be in the courtroom, as either a
prosecutor or defense counsel in
military proceedings. As you gain
experience, you may also have the
opprotunity to serve as a military judge,
overseeing a range of appellate cases.
