Lake Mary Police Department Continues Investigation into Shooting

City of Lake Mary: On 05/11/2015, the Lake Mary Police Department responded to
reports of a shooting which occurred on W. Lake Mary Blvd. A Lake Mary police officer
was flagged down by George Zimmerman, who stated that a person just fired a weapon at
him while he was in his vehicle. Simultaneously, Lake Mary dispatch received a third party
9-1-1 call on behalf of Matthew Apperson. The caller reported that Mr. Apperson told
him that he shot at George Zimmerman. George Zimmerman sustained minor injuries,
and was then transported to an area hospital where he was released a short time later.
The Lake Mary Police Department obtained search warrants for both vehicles involved in
the incident. The search warrant for Mr. Appersons vehicle has been executed and two
handguns were recovered. The handguns recovered were a 40 caliber Glock 22, and a 357
revolver with one expended shell casing in the cylinder. In the course of the investigation
Mr. Zimmermans Glock handgun was recovered. Detectives have not yet affected the
search warrant on George Zimmermans vehicle.
Presently, both parties have retained legal counsel and no further information is available.
The investigation is still ongoing and continues to develop. The Lake Mary Police
