Dear Ms. Jorgenson:
This course has provided me with the opportunity to enhance my professionalism and
knowledge about a variety of genres. I have learned details about proposals, letter of
intents, and executive summaries that I never knew before. I got the opportunity to
interview a gentleman in my field that applies the information provided in this course in
his profession and explained the value of grant writing skills. The information given
throughout the course will be valuable in whatever direction I choose and the overall
professionalism I have gained in my writing will be a crucial skill throughout my life.
The following portfolio addresses a variety of document genres. Starting off with a
collaborative proposal project that focuses on the needs of The Arts Partnership, we
compiled to create an executive summary, proposal, and presentation for the board
members. FirstLink came to our group and addressed the issues they are facing as a
company and allowed us to take on the role of providing them with a letter of intent and
needs assessment. In addition, individuals I wrote a memorandum, conducted an
interview, and distributed a professional thank you letter. All of these genres allowed us
to expand our knowledge on formatting and designing documents in the most appealing
way dependent on the genre.
Throughout the course of this class and our projects several skills were put to use. In the
group settings, which consisted of Unit 1 and the majority of Unit 2, we could each focus
on our strengths and we were able to produce high quality documents. Throughout the
group works I focused on researching and using my Excel skills to present timelines and
organize information. Our communication skills were essential to compiling and meeting
deadlines for the projects. We all utilized our skills so well throughout Unit 1 that we
decided to continue working together throughout Unit 2 and we were able to compile
another project that was of really good quality.
Throughout the course of this class I have learned how to manage time and collaborate
efficiently and effectively with a group. We were able to build off each others ideas and
come up with the best option for all of our audiences. We were capable of accomplishing
this because we built around each of our strengths and used them to our advantage in
every way possible. Professionalism was a critical portion of our collaborative

documents. Learning how to format all the genres to give the best appearance to the
audience will be used throughout my life in whichever career path I choose.
My groups final project consisted of addressing FirstLinks needs as far as providing
them with a survey to assess the knowledge college students had about the services
FirstLink provides. We also supplemented them with ideas of improving their marketing
along with a table of organizations to get involved with on campus that would benefit
significantly from their services. Our main weakness was time constraints and not getting
to show our full potential in our research. I also think addressing the majority of campus
rather than English and Theatre majors would be beneficial for them.
Throughout the progression of this portfolio a variety of genres will be presented. The
beginning works are done in a group setting while the later are my independent
documents. Works from proposals, an interview, and needs assessment are a few to
expect. This course has provided me with the ability to format professional documents,
like the ones stated previously, and for that I will always be grateful. The portfolio
demonstrates my ability to professionally address individuals and companies to gain
knowledge and provide them with knowledge.
Sincerely,

Lauren Cammack
