An Expert in Relationships
By: SOPHIA SONG
Every morning, one teacher is conferencing with a student struggling with Spanish in
room B301. The teacher is amply adored among her Spanish students, which puts her on
the list as one of the most popular teachers. Her name is Ms. Choi, a mother-like
character with a warm heart. Not only is she engaged in forming and maintaining fruitful
relationships with her students, but also in helping her students with Spanish. She
promotes understanding the importance of bonding to get along with students.
During class, if a student makes a pronunciation error with one of the Spanish terms, the
student is carefully guided through as to how to correctly pronounce the word. Even
though students make the same error over again, Ms. Choi persistently tries to help
students by using diverse examples.
I think that all of my students are positive and it inspires me when I see them working
hard in class which motivates me to be a supporter for them, Mrs. Choi said.
Ms. Choi is the person she is today because of her experience with learning the value of
relationships. She is an example of how ones family has a significant impact on their
childrens growth. Ms. Chois character is significantly influenced by the relationship
with her parents. Growing up in Ecuador since she was three-years-old, Ms. Chois
parents had no strict policy in terms of education.
Her father, Hwa Choi and mother, Shin Joong Ja knew that true knowledge and wisdom
come from forming healthy relationships. The forgiving relationship between Ms. Choi
and her parents enabled her to see the importance of her students well being above
pressuring them academically.
My parents trusted me with anything related to education. They were happy with the fact
that I was a stable girl, Ms. Choi said.

Ms. Choi also does her best to coordinate her classes so that students are not loaded with
masses of homework. At times Ms. Choi extends due dates of projects if the class notifies
her that they have too much tests on the due-date.
Ms. Choi forgives her students because I think she tries to empathize with her students,
Joy Song (11) said.
Later in Ms. Chois sophomore year, she learned the value of cherished memories. Ms.
Choi was apart of the high schools dance team. During the middle of the year her entire
dance team went away to dance camp far from her neighborhood. At that time, Ms. Choi
was unaware that her mother knew her destination, due to its distance. Her mother figured
out where she was going, and drove a long way just to treat her daughter and her friends
with Snapple drinks. It was a big surprise when Ms. Choi saw her mother holding a box
of Snapple cans for her and her friends at the camp. However, life for Ms. Choi was not
always spent happily. Ms. Chois family faced a tragedy during her high school years. It
was the loss of her mother, which left Ms. Choi in sadness especially since the death
happened not far from the event that Ms. Choi cherished the most.
It was just a really nice moment. You know, she doesnt speak the language (the Spanish
language) and she doesnt know the culture, but my mother always did whatever to make
me feel like I belonged there, Ms. Choi said in tears.
This moment in her life, taught her about cherishing relationships and understanding the
brevity of one. Her numerous experiences turned her not only into a wonderful teacher,
but a warm friend.
She has the extraordinary capability of incorporating her respect in relationships with
students, creating a friendly environment. Ms. Choi is a woman who does. She does not
just skim the surfaces of her relationships; rather, she goes deeper and tries to find special
qualities in each individual, cherishing them.
