Gay Marriage
When you love someone, they are one of the first things you think about. When you are
around them, you are your best self. They make you happy. And when you truly love someone
you generally get married. The controversy comes about when two people of the same gender
love each other and wish to get married. Gay marriage has been a controversial topic for many
years, but in recent times it has become legalized in many states and has changes the views of of
the U.S.
There are many benefits to same-sex marriage. The U.S. Supreme Court summarily
affirmed a ruling now long since superseded by progress, legal developments, and greater
understanding of gay people and why marriage matters(Four Decades). There is now a total of
17 states and the District of Columbia that have legalized gay marriage(State Marriage Laws).
The changing of laws in the U.S. allows people who are aya to express themselves in a manner
that, in previous years, they would have been criticized for. It essentially changes their lives
forever. As newer generations come about, their ideals change from the generations preceding
generations. This allows them to accept the idea of same-sex marriage, and leads to the changing
of lows preventing the union of two people of the same gender.
There are also disadvantages that come about with gay marriage. When two people get
married they generally want to start a family. Many adoption agencies go out of business because

they have allowed gay adoption, asl the child they adopt have a higher chance of experiencing
trauma (Chitton Wagner 2). There is a lot of political controversy over gay marriage. The issue
comes about over the definition of marriage. Many politicians, especially Republicans, believe
that the proper definition of marriage is the union between one man and one women. Gay
marriage is also no commonly accepted by the church. The Vatican released a statement against
the adoption of children by gay people (Chitton Wagner 2). Though gay marriage has gained
popularity in many regions there is still a strong opposing force when it come to the legalization
of same-sex marriage.
Gay marriage should be legalized in the United States. It is not whether the definition of
marriage is the union between one man and one women or not. It matters whether the two
people seeking union are happy and in love with each other. A lot of the time, the idea of gay
marriage cares people because they arent used to the idea, and they have no control over it. So
with what little power they politicians have over the situation, they try to change the outcome to
be against the favor of gay marriage. Its a new world, and other people should not have the
choice whether or not two people should marry each other. If two people are happy together and
want to get married, then so be it, but it should not matter if they are the same gender.
The controversial subject of same-sex marriage has recently gained popularity in the U.S.
and is changing this country forever. On one hand, people get married and can start a family.
People are also themselves because they can express who they are without being looked down
upon. On the other hand, said family could include a child that could grow up and be treated
differently because of their same gender parents. Plus, there is the idea that marriage is only
union between a man and a woman. Does it matter in the end? If they are happy together, let
them be married.
