Journal #9 Contour Line with Texture
How did you use line in your composition? Talk about the quality of your line (thick and thin,
drk and light) and discuss your use of texture how you used it in your composition.
Well, one flaw I had in choosing to draw two anime characters are that there isnt much
texture to add. So that is a mistake in my part. Though, in my composition I primarily used thick
and bold lines for the outline of the two figures. I used texture to replicate shadow and form in
the illustration. On the figure to the right, I gave the hair a solid and bold texture to kind of
emphasis the hiddenness of the face. Then I tried to give the waist of the figure a cloth look to it,
by putting the portrait over my carpet and then shade over that to get the texture. Overall I
wanted to give the figure on the right a darker look, contrary to the figure on the left. Wanted to
give the figure on the left a lighter look, which meant the shading would be softer. I didnt want
to shade the hair of the left figure, so I did a scratchy look to replicate hair and not completely
darken it. Also tried to give the orb on the left figures hand the cyclonic look it had in the picture
(from the Otaku USA magazine).
