Internship Reflection
1

Statement of original goals (analysis of all established goals in your proposal) and your
assessment of your progress on each. Include the goal itself, the activity used to
implement the goal, your evidence that the goal was met, and any related annotation.
o During this internship I would like to accomplish a greater sense of who I am and
how I facilitate while being in a teacher assistant position. I would like to learn
why and how I facilitate in the ways that I do and how grow by learning to get
along with others personalities and facilitation styles. I was able o successfully
complete my goals through the class. I did this by working closely with the larger
group, the smaller developmental group with Allie and Shiana, and also
individually. Through working with the larger group I was able to complete my
goal of how I facilitate. Through my strengths and VIAs I learned that I facilitate
because I love. Im so passionate about the minor I want to share my passion with
others and want them to experience what I did in HDF 413. I was also able to earn
a greater sense of community with my class. I was able to build relationships with
my coworkers as well as my peers. This relationship isnt just on an in class basis,
I have also built relationships with my students outside of class as well.

How, if at all, were you trained for your position (task)? Please describe in detail.
Looking back, was your training satisfactory? Why or why not?
a

Training wasnt actually just this semester. I have been training for this my whole
college career. This s because every theory I learn I has brought me to the leader I
am today. I also have to teach and have my students understand these theories. I
have also been trained by taking the class HDF 413 which is the one I am
teaching. Now that I have taken the class it was easier for me to teach and
understand what my students were going through. They also may have had
questions very similar to ones that I have had which allows me to better answer
those questions. The training I have received is more than satisfactory. This is
because I have been doing this type of work with the leadership minor for three
years and consider myself almost a veteran that has the answers to a lot of
questions students may have.

How were integrated into the culture (process)?

How did you build and maintain

relationships with colleagues? Looking back, was your integration satisfactory? Why or
why not?

Within this internship Shiana and I will be discussing various topics throughout
the semester. Some of these topics consists of Group Development Theory,
Understanding Effective Change within and Organization, Relations Leadership
Model & SOLC and many other topics. While teaching this topics I will gain a
greater understanding of these models and topics and will be able to better teach
and pass them along to others in the future. I was able to build a positive

relationship with shiana through this internship. We didnt really know each other
before the internship but we were both in the same minor and same class. It was
nice meeting someone who was very bright and willing to work. I think my
integration into the class was very smoothly. Allie chose us based on our specific
strengths and skills. Although we have very opposing skills we were able to use
each of those skills in tandem with another. This allowed us to work together well
and get all the content we needed to in an efficient and thorough manor.

Did your site have a staff development program? If so, what is the goal of the program?
How was it structured? What did you cover? What are your feelings about it?

We didnt necessarily have a staff development program however we did work on


the development of our skills with the class. As we grew in the class we did
activities together that abled us to fine tune our skills.

Effects:

How did you affect the internship environment (i.e. how is the site different because of
your interaction)?
a

Within the internship my colleges and I were able to effect the internship
environment in different ways. I am very passionate, loud, and positive leader. I
was able to bring a lot of fun, laughs, and energy to the environment while having
a serious demeanor about the topics and assignments due. I feel as though I had a
positive effect on the work environment. I was able to bring a different aspect to
the internship because of my age. This meaning that a lot of the student where
close to the age of Shiana and I. this brings a different work prospective and
environment to the class because we were able to more closely relate to them

because of the minimal age difference. Allie has a different impact on the students
than we do because of her experience and drive.

How have you changed as a result of your experience?


a

I have grown as a better leader that is more culturally sound. Learning more about
working with other cultures and ethnicities allows me to be a better-rounded
student and person. I was also able to increase my ability to facilitate groups and
organziations. Being positive role figure in class helped me enhance my skills in
connecting with others and also demanding the room. As a leader it is very
important to be able to demand the room and make them listen to you. Overall I
had a great experience in this internship. I learned an immense about myself, my
organization, cultures, and also facilitating in general.
