Discipline & Guidance Policy

Kristi-Lins Academy, Inc. ensures that discipline and guidance are consistent and based on an understanding of
individual needs and development and promote self-discipline and acceptable behavior.
The basic philosophy and policy at Kristi-Lins Academy, Inc. is that children need positive guidance rather than
punishment. Children are learning to develop their own inner controls, and it is the responsibility of staff to guide
them in this process. Limits (the rules of the classroom) are explained to the children and applied consistently. When
children over step these limits, positive guidance techniques are used to encourage self-esteem, self control, and self
direction by using praise and encouragement of good behavior instead of focusing only upon unacceptable behavior.
Caregivers remind a child of behavior expectations daily by using clear, positive statements and redirected children to
another activity when needed.
There will be no harsh, cruel or unusual punishment.
Corporal Punishment or threats of corporal punishment is prohibited.
Children will not be shaken, bitten, pinched, hit with a hand or instrument or have
anything put in or on their mouth as punishment.
Children will not be humiliated, ridiculed, yelled at, rejected or isolated.
Children will not be subjected to harsh, abusive or profane language.
Punishment will not be associated with food, naps or toilet training.
Bedwetters will not be shamed or punished.
Children will not be placed in a locked or dark room, bathroom, or closet with the
door closed as punishment.
Children will not be required to remain silent or inactive for inappropriately long
periods of time for the childs age.
Sad faces on sign-out sheets and childrens work, and ink on childrens skin is prohibited.
Each child will be treated fairly and firmly keeping in mind his/her emotional and physical development when
unacceptable behavior occurs. However this is a learning center and if a child is being disruptive or harmful to
him/herself or others it will be documented on observation reports and called to the parents attention. If misbehavior
is continuous then he/she will not be allowed to participate in extra curricular activity (computer lab, dancing, sports,
swimming, field trips, and martial arts) set for the day.
Time out chairs or other designated punishment areas are not appropriate.
Aggressive behavior in children must not be overlooked because it sends a message to children that aggressive
behavior is acceptable. A child needs to know that it is never okay to hurt another child or adult. Children need help
in making their wants known verbally. Staff will help children to express their feelings and wants with words.
KRISTI-LINS RESERVES THE RIGHT TO REFUSE SERVICES IN REGUARDS TO DISCIPLINE OR
BEHAVIORL PROBLEMS THAT DISPLAY UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR (VERBAL OR PHYSICAL) THAT
ENDANGERS OUR CHILDREN IN OUR CARE OR OUR EMPLOYEES. AFTER A SET TRIAL PERIOD HAS
BEEN ESTABLISHED AND A PARENT CONFERENCE HAS TAKEN PLACE.

Kristi-Lins Academy Learning Express reserves the right to decline/suspend childcare services to those clients
whom refuse to comply with our centers policies.
