Fromthebeginningsocialworkistheonehelpingprofessionwhosereveredcodeof
ethicsisclearaboutitsmoralmissiontoempowerclientsandaddressbothprivatetroubles
andpublicissues,particularlyforthosewhoaretheleastadvantaged
.Socialwork,asa
profession,originatedinthe19thcentury,Whereinthistimepeoplestarttolookthatmany
peopleneededhelp.Theprincipalreasonsofstartasocialworkwasthatontheworldmany
peopleliveinpovertyandthoseareignored,thisjobbeganasaphilanthropicactivitycentered
caretothepoor,inamixtureofattendance,controlandrepression.Thisishowthehistoryof
socialworkfoundapartinphilanthropicconceptionsadvocatedloveforothersandhelpthe
needyandalsoinmoralstandardsthatmarkeditasanaidtothepoorandthehelpless.
Thefieldofsocialworkhasmanykindsofjob,allthesehaveabenefitinthesocietyevenwhen
somearemostfocusesonfamilyproblems,othersarefocusesonmentalhealth.Inalltypesof
socialworktheprincipalpurposeiscoulddevelopmentcommunitythatdemandsaresponseto
theproblemsoflackthataffectlargesectorsofthepopulationandpreventingthemfrommeeting
theirbasicneeds.
Asocialworkerisafacilitatorandguidepeopleinsocialproblemssothattheycanfind
anduseresourcesandmeanstoovercomedifficultiesandachievetheirgoals.Alsoindelivery
solutionsaccordingtothepossibilitiesofthecaseandoftheenvironmentoraffectedandopens

meettheneedstheindividualidentifieswhileestablishingatrustingrelationshipandgradually
engagingtheclientintocomprehensiveservices.Socialworkersplayacriticalroleinthis
process.Homelesslookforaplacetobesafeandsleepalittle,nomatterwhereitcouldbe.The
poorinAmericaistobedegradedanddismissed,scornedandshamed.Tobepooristobe

Notonlydosocialworkershelptheindividualbuttheyhaveworkedforsocialjusticeinthe
largercommunities,workingtowardtheeliminationofracism,discriminationandothersocial
ills.Thejobsthatsocialworkersrealizeisabighelpforeveryonenotjustforthecommunity,
peoplecouldobtainhelpwhentheyloseacloserpersonorwhenapersonisseriouslyill,social
workershelptoovercomethistragedyonbothways(theillpersonandthefamily).The
