FACTORS THAT AFFECT HUMAN TRAFFICKING

In the Philippines, there are various factors that contribute to human trafficking. The
most significant one is poverty. Such circumstance tends to lead some parents to see
child labor as means to cope with meager family income. (Humantrafficking.org) Due
to economic conditions, trafficking victims have the tendancy to place themselves in
positions where they are at risk of being trafficked. Another factor is labor. The
International Labor Organization estimates that one million Filipinos migrate abroad
each year for work opportunities and ten million are categorized as immigrants. A
number of these people are subjected to conditions of forced labor in factories, at
construction sites, on fishing vessels, on agricultural plantations, and as domestic
workers in Asia and increasingly throughout the Middle East. (Humantrafficking.org)
