Antures, A. (2013, December 9). 'Disney Princesses Are Stupid,' Says 7-Year-Old Girl From
Argentina. Forbes.
This article talks about a little girl and its opinion over Disney princess in general. The
author of this magazine article makes it clear that she did not like them and goes over to explain
the reasons over it. He also gives out some context to present over how is Disney reacting to the
little kids expectative over them. The author then proves its point by comparing how some of the
times has changed. Then he proceeds to link to the video of this girl which speaks over what the
whole article is all about.
This is a good example of a real life example which could be needed in this project. The
fact that it is a little girl only makes this article more useful as it gives out an impact over the
new ideas that modern society is giving out. It also gives out a good point over what the girl is
saying in support of other articles which will be also included in the project. The fact that it also
includes the video in itself also is very helpful as it can then be used as a good source to cite
exactly what the girl says in the video.
Townbin, A. (2004). Images of Gender, Race, Age, and Sexual Orientation in Disney FeatureLength AnimatedFilms. Journal of Feminist Family Therapy, 15(4). Retrieved from
http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1300/J086v15n04_02
This is an article that talks about all the things that you could expect from the title:
Gender, Race, age and sexual orientation. The author uses diverse sources to talk about how are
certain genders and such favored in the Disney films in a lengthy way. The author also gives out
some background about how Disney was built giving out some context to the reader of the text.
This also speaks about diverse movies in specific giving out examples over the topic that is being
discussed. Finally the author also gives out some background on some of these movies so that it
is clear over the context.
This source would be useful as it talks about the three things that I am looking for in the
project. It is also giving out another point of view as it is published by a feminist journal, which
could also affect the way the information is given . Also it is helpful to see how races and sexual
orientation fit into this as other sources did not mention them as much as this one does. The story
background behind every movie helps the author prove its point which is helpful for the project
in more than one way.

Barnes, B. (2009, May 29). Does Tiana,Disney First Black Princess, Conquer Stereotypes? New
York Times. Retrieved from http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/31/fashion/31disney.html?
pagewanted=all&_r=0
This newspaper article talks about the first disney black princess, Tiana , and the
problems that came along with her. The author makes it clear that it was not simple bringing her
to the Disney universe due to the fact of racism. It also makes clear the fact that it gave hope to
others due to the fact that they would be racist if they had not had one. It explains the
controversy that happened due to this two ideas colliding together and having to fix each other.
However, Disney princess still was something that happened, yet the final word on this idea was
still debatable and something that needed to be checked.
This is a good article that explains controversy which is something that Disney has
created when talking about race and gender. The fact that it is heavily related to race due to her
being the first black princess is something to also back up this source a little more. Disney also
impacted the future society when creating this princess , and this will be seen in some of the
arguments that are given and seen on this article. This article helps to display who society usually
thinks will get the last word as well as the two sides colliding together.
Alter, C. (2015). How 7 Disney Princesses Could Change the World. Time.Com, N.PAG.
The author of this newspaper article goes in a very good topic which is finding out how
exactly are some of Disneys princess involved in some affairs that are currently happening in the
world. Examples of this can be seen in how they think Mulan can be used as a symbol to increase
protection for females in the military. Also it speaks about 6 others and takes up to topics such as
the Middle East with Jazmin , Global Warming with Elsa from Frozen, and so forth. The author
also gives out a pretty good introduction as to how this idea came to be in general.
This is a pretty good example of another source that could be used to introduce what is
going to follow without having to repeat scholarly articles. Also , this article is more separated
which helps incorporating into the project much easier than just a regular article. While it is not
that lengthy in some aspects such as each princess, the article as a whole can be used as
references also when speaking about certain Disney characters since it is so diverse. This article
is a good example of how to add something else without having to be redundant with the
scholarly articles.

Padurano, D. (2011). "Isn't That a Dude?": Using Images to Teach Gender and Ethnic Diversity
in the U.S. History Classroom--Pocahontas: A Case Study. History Teacher, 44(2), 191-208.
The author of this article starts by explaining how this article came to be with some
background information. Then he proceeds to explain how then he managed to create some
visual exercises to teach how the image of U.S History using a single Disney film which is
Pocahontas , then the author proceeds to talk about the results that this gave him as well as
relating some historical content to the film.
This is a good example of one of the movies where one could go deep into. This article
would help to see how does it also relate not only to actual times but also dating to some
historical references. The author explaining how some of the students took the idea of using
Pocahontas with cross reference to some history , helps to prove the point as to how could these
movies impact our daily life in more ways than we are actually thinking about in our personal
thoughts.

Faherty, V. E. (2001). Is the mouse sensitive? A study of race, gender, and social vulnerability in
Disney animated films. Simile, 1(3), N.PAG.
The author of this article makes an analysis over some of the most successful Disney
movies and the characters that appear over it. The author also goes over some aspects that Disney
had to face due to the content included in the movies that they have published so far. During this
article also includes some statistics over some data that could be found as in general over these
movies that had been mentioned.
This article can be used in my project due to the fact that it includes some statistics over
ethnicity, as well as some of the scandals that Disney had to face which would go great to
introduce the project. It also includes some of the social vulnerabilities included in the statistics
which in general packs up a great amount of useful information that could be referenced in
diverse ways for the best interest of the project. Examples of this would include to how much
races are we exposed to when we see some of the classic Disney films.

Annotated Bibliography on Disney over Race and Gender.

This is a book over a collection of diverse essays that talk about the diversity of race.
This book for this same reason goes from the very beginning to modern days of Disney talking
about diverse aspects that can be found in each of the essays. Examples of this include race ,
ethnicity and gender. These essays also cover the social impact that these films have over todays
society and how this has a significant cultural importance in modern societies that we live in.
As this is a collection of essays , the sources that could be found in this book are pretty
big and can help in diverse topics as the essays do not focus over a specific topic. Also , since it
analyzes social impact and cultural importance , this book can bring a lot of help to the project in
diverse ways such as adding cross references between topics due to the fact that having all of the
essays in a collection it makes things way simpler.

Dundes, L. (2001). Disney's modern heroine Pocahontas: revealing age-old gender stereotypes
and role discontinuity under a facade of liberation. Social Science Journal, 38(3), 353.
The author of this article goes into the movie Pocahontas , this time more in depth than in
other articles. Speaking from some of the scenes such as the first one and what do they mean to
comparing this film to other Disney film , this is an article that analyzes a lot of the aspects of
this movie. It also speaks to some relation over to some daily life aspects such as maternity and
self-esteem. The author also looks in the sequel to see how much has this movie changed and
what does it mean.
This article could help go deeper into the film which is Pocahontas due to the fact that it
could imply so many things , it would go great with relation to the article mentioned before this
one. Examples of where could I use this article is mentioning the sequel which is not mentioned
at all during the past article , as well as contrasting the point of view of what is this Disney film
doing to young minds.

Belkhyr, S. (2013). Defining the 'self ' and the 'other' in Disney song lyrics. International
Journal Of Human Sciences, 10(1), 1366-1378.
The author creates an analysis of some points of view that were presented in some of
Disney films , particularly during the songs that are so common in these kind of movies.
Examples of movies that are being analysed as well as the impact that the lyrics to the songs
brought include Aladdin with the attacks that Disney had to suffer afterwards. The author also

mentions the impact that comes to young audiences that are being exposed to this lyrics that are
being presented in these movies.
This source is one of the best I could find , since it would be really helpful to be able to
see what professionals say about the lyrics of the songs , as Disney uses them in every single
movie. The idea of it affecting young audiences just makes this source even more useful for the
general use of introducing the project as well as concluding it , overall this source has many
applications that could be brought to the project in general.

What are some ways Disney teaches gender stereotypes? (n.d.). Retrieved from
https://storify.com/kpmeyer/what-are-some-ways-disney-teaches-gender-stereotyp
This is a website that displays an article by the user kpmeyer which then goes ahead to
talk about some ideas on gender and Disney. Some of these ideas include the memories of the
author talking about some of the films and how it influenced her. After that point the author
links to some of the movies and articles and talks about how some of the stereotypes that have
been marked in our minds can be found in some of Disneys films. After that there is a summary
and a concluding paragraph which speaks about the whole article in general.
While this is not as professional as the other sources , it has something that some others
do not: a first source experience. This is good due to the fact that it also links to some of the
films and talks about gender which is important. The fact that it also talks about some of manly
stereotypes only makes it more relevant to the topic of the project. The author having a
conclusion surely helps when including this information into the project. Also it includes a
section where Disney is changing according to the author and how is this change going which
could be worth mentioning too.
