Subject: Formal Proposal

Purpose: A proposal for the basic training and knowledge, intended for future physical therapist
currently perusing the field of medical orthopedics.
In order to prevent and treat the physical therapist must be knowledgeable of every component of
the knee; this manual can be used as a quick and accessible reference. The manual is user
friendly beginning with an index to identify the page of the manual to find information needed, it
also contains large subtitles. A glossary is included at the end of the manual, it contains many
terms used throughout the manual this is intended to educate the future physical therapists of the
proper definition of such terms.
As a group we present this proposal for various reasons, first to understand the basic anatomy
and the structure of the knee in order to treat it properly. The manual begins with information
regarding the bones and ligaments as well as causes and symptoms of pain. A chart is provided to
better understand the different symptoms as well as intensity of the knee pain, the chart presented
breaks down the pain symptoms into three equal sections and it is explained according to the
moment when the pain begins and how chronic knee pain can eventually affect a persons daily
lifestyle.

important that we teach and train these future Therapists on to care for these patients and get

employment in our hospitals and clinics.

Towards the end of the manual the focus is turned to the importance of being intercultural in the
physical therapists field and explains situations and expectations regarding this topic, the fact
that cultural differences have a bearing on health and can even have an impact on the
effectiveness of the treatment. All cultures have different believes of causes of illnesses,
treatment and at time even the form of how it should be treated. It is important to keep in mind
that many patients believe in the power of science and medication treatments while others are
more spiritual and relay on prayer to see changes in their health. The fact is that cultural issues
play a major role in patient compliance
Culture directly influences the expectations of people as they play a role in our life, whether they
may be the patient a co-worker or even a superior. This should not affect the professionalism a
physical therapist should always have as a priority. Many times they will come face to face to
such situations whether working local or working in another country.
In conclusion we are optimistic that our program will sever as a good and training facility for our
future Physical Therapists. This is an opportunity to train not only our own community but to
keep these students and professionals in our great city of El Paso Texas so they too can continue
to educate and train other future trainees as Physical Therapists.
