To Whom It May Concern:

It is with great privilege that I write to you in recommendation of Jack Davis. I first coached Jack as a
Freshman when he came out as a sprinter for the Track & Field. Since then I have coached Jack as the
sprinting Coach at Shepherd for his entire High School career. Jack has been absolutely great to work
with throughout high school and has great ability as well as superb work ethic.
Throughout his young athletic career Jack has shown that hard work and consistency can lead to steady
improvement. As a Freshman Jack was a promising sprinter who ran a time of 13.83 in the 100 meter
dash. This is an excellent time for a young sprinter and Jack was always positive and worked hard in
practice. By the next season Jack's hard work started to pay off as he improved to 12.80 in the 100
meter dash and ran a 26.16 in the 200 meter dash. Sprinting is not easy as it takes a large amount of
technical work as well as lots of hard running so to excel at it is tough.
Going into his Junior season not only was Jack hoping to continue to improve individually but always
had taken a large step forward in being a leader for the sprinters. Jack would regularly lead the
sprinters through our beginning warm up routines and make sure he knew what the daily workout was.
Jack also competed on several relay teams which require patience and diligence when working on hand
offs. Junior year saw improvements in the 100 meter dash to 12.71 and a huge drop in the 200 meter
dash to 25.52. The leadership and improvement continued onto Jack's Senior year as he once again has
been a huge leader for our program and improved his times. So far in the 100 meter dash Jack has ran
a personal best of 12.36 and another best of 25.41 in the 200 meter dash. More importantly Jack's
steady hand in the relays have been a large part for our much improved relays compared to last season.
At regionals Jack ran an excellent leg of the 400 meter relay as the team finished 2nd and qualified for
the MHSAA Division 3 State Finals. The time of 45.92 ran in the relay was the fastest 400 meter relay
at Shepherd in 5 seasons.
Another area that Jack absolutely excels at is the class room and around the school in many other
activities. Throughout High School Jack has participated in Wrestling, Choir and many Church
activities. I regularly see him cheering on other sports through out the year as well. School spirit at
Shepherd is a big part of our success and Jack is definitely a part of this. Jack has also volunteered at
the Shepherd Maple Syrup Festival as well, which is a Festival put on by the Village of Shepherd to
support youth recreation.
I am positive that Jack will continue his history of hard work in whatever direction he decides to
take his future. His will to work hard and be successful make him a strong candidate for any position.
Sincerely,

Carey Hammel
