Trigonometry
Problem:
Johnny is given a trigonometric identity as follows: tan=5/4. He must find the other five
trigonometric identities in order to get his cell phone passcode back. His teacher,
asserting her dominance, took away his phone for using during class. His only hope is
finding the identities.
Solution:
In order to achieve the correct answer, draw a triangle and label it.
Sin=opposite/hypotenuse, cos=adjacent/hypotenuse, tan=opposite/adjacent,
csc=hypotenuse/opposite, sec=hypotenuse/adjacent, cot=adjacent/opposite.

Use the pythagorean theorem to solve the hypotenuse.

52 + 4 2 = c 2

25+16= c 2

41= c 2

=c

Answer:
sin= 5 / = 5 / 41
cos= 4 / = 4 / 41
tan= 5/4
csc= / 5
sec= / 4
cot= 4/5
Reflection:
Johnny lives in the millennial era. This means most teenagers are given items such as
smartphones instead of EARNING those items. Getting this sort of punishment, like Johnny did,
represents discipline in a teenagers life.
