Introduction
The book Flatland, by Edwin A. Abbott, written in 1884 was a book about the journeys
of a square through dimensions. There are worlds such as: Lineland, Flatland, and Spaceland. In
each land, there are living things who do not know of the other lands existences. In Lineland, all
that is seen to those who are lines in Lineland is points. All that is seen in Flatland is lines. In
spaceland, they see in 3D as we do in the real world. In this project, we will be making: A Cover
and Back cover with book synopsis, five pieces of digital artwork to accompany the book, an
advertisement found in a magazine, and a short trailer for a feature long film.
Goals
The four goals we will be striving for whilst doing this project are: effectively using our
knowledge and experience of stop motion to produce an exceptional short trailer. The second
goal is, to use our experience in using Adobe Illustrator to make good illustrations for our book
cover, and five pieced of artwork. The third goal is to finish this project in the time given. Our
final goal is to have the final product meet the expectations given to us by our Digital Media
Teacher.
Client
The client for the Flatland project is the digital media teacher of InTech Collegiate High
School, Mrs. Lamarra.
Scope
The first thing we will do for this project is start on the book cover. The book cover will
be made up of three parts. A front, a back, and a synopsis. The synopsis will be put on the back

with a few simple designs. The front cover will give the name of the book, and the author. The
next thing we will begin doing is the five pieces of digital artwork. In doing this, we will chose
five specific things that happen during the book and illustrate them as we see them. Each piece of
artwork will represent a specific thing that has happened in the book Flatland. Next, we will
begin on the magazine advertisement. This will be a simple advert advertising the movie based
off the book. We will base it off a movie-type cover. This will be targeted in trying to make
consumers want to see the movie. Next, we will work on the short trailer. This trailer will be
made in a stop motion format. This trailer will advertise the movie and make people want to see
the movie. The minimum length our stop motion trailer will be is 45 seconds.
Target Audience
The target audience for our project is Mrs. Lamarra, the digital media 2A class, and
people who are interested in a movie based on a book from the 1800s. These people are our
target audience because, we will be making a movie trailer and advertisement. These will be
targeting people who want to see the movie. While the others, the book cover and the
illustrations, are more targeted on people who want to read the book.

Limitations/Constraints
While doing this project, we will experience limitations. One limitations we will
experience is: having only two people working on this project. While most people doing this
project have three to four people working, we have two. This will not be a very big limitation.
Another limitation is that we will be using some different programs to do this project. We will be
using Adobe Illustrator, Windows Movie Maker, and Audacity for the audio.
