So Paulo Project Process Paper

I conducted my research by first starting with Britannica Academic and doing a

search on So Paulo. The first article I found included information about all parts of So
Paulo and this was the base of my research. I then visited Ms. Semples page on the
Mega-City project and used the databases provided to further conduct my research and
used the ten themes to guide me. One very useful site that I found was a news article on
BBC World News which talked about the drought currently in So Paulo and efforts
being made to conserve water. Another great source I found was from the Proquest
database and the source I found was about unemployment in So Paulo and how it is
the worst that it has been in the past 70 years. These three sources were the most
helpful sources in all of my research and they allowed me to produce the most
notecards.
I created my website based off a simple idea. This idea is that I wanted to make
my website as user friendly as possible as well as providing as much text as visuals. By
providing images the user can get a visual of the information instead of just flooding their
brains with text. I made my website user friendly by inserting a button at the bottom of
each page which (if clicked) allows the user to continue on to the next page without
having to scroll back to the top of the page. I made my website this way because

whenever I am on a website I feel overwhelmed if there is so much information in a very

small font making it difficult to follow along.
The site and situation of the region of So Paulo has changed dramatically since
the 1900s. This is true because of the migration of people from Spain, Portugal, and
many parts of Europe. These people migrated because of the amount of coffee
plantation that are located in So Paulo. Because of the high demand for coffee, the
coffee industry flourished and So Paulo continued to develop. The citys population
skyrocketed between 1920 and 1940 and it more than doubled passing Rio de Janeiro in
population by 1960. The site and situation of the region changed immensely throughout
the 1900s and will only continue to grow in the future.
The situation of So Paulo changed because of industrial development after
World War II. After World War II So Paulo became the most industrialized zone in Latin
America and the value of its industrial production it the most significant of any one city in
Brazil. Many industries for example the manufacturing of electrical appliances are on the
rise in terms of production. Commerce is also a key factor in So Paulos industry and is
spread out throughout the city by zone. The site and situation of So Paulo has changed
because of people migrating to the city to work on coffee plantations which caused the
migration of people from Europe.
