The following interview was conducted with Mr Kurt Robinson, the President of Robinson
Helicopter Company. Mr Robinson has been the President of the company since 2010, after the
retirement of Frank Robinson, his father, who founded the company in 1973. Mr Robinson holds a
commercial helicopter pilot licence and has worked in the Robinson Helicopter Company for more
than 30 years.
Visiongain would like to thank Mr Kurt Robinson and Robinson Helicopter Company for their
cooperation and contribution.
Mr Kurt Robinson: We currently have three helicopters that we are producing; the R22 two-seater
helicopter, the R44, of which there are 2 versions; the Raven I carburetted with a O-540 Lycoming
engine, and the fuel-injected version, which is the Raven II and finally we have the R66, which is a
five-seater turbine helicopter with a baggage compartment and powered by Rolls-Royce 300
engine.
Mr Kurt Robinson: Obviously, it was going excessively well between 2006 and 2008. However,
the great recession hit, and I think the whole market froze up. It has been thawing up since then,
and has done really well in the last two years, in which we have produced approximately 500
helicopters each year. It seems to be falling into a longer, firmly steady path, although its not as
good as it was from 2006 to 2008, but I think the growth is certainly slowly coming back.
