SIOP Lesson Plan Template 2

STANDARDS: E07.B-K.1.1.3: Analyze the interactions between individuals, events, and ideas in
a text (e.g., how ideas influence individuals or events, how individuals influence ideas or events).
E07.B-C.2.1.3: Determine how the author uses the meaning of words or phrases, including
figurative, connotative, or technical meanings, in a text; analyze the impact of a specific word
choice on meaning and tone.

THEME: Nonfiction/Holocaust/WWII
LESSON TOPIC: Anne Frank
OBJECTIVES:
Language:
Students will be able to define key vocabulary.

Content:
Students will be able to examine passages from Anne Frank's diary.

LEARNING STRATEGIES: summarizing, repitition


KEY VOCABULARY: acquaintences, hostages, Gestapo,
MATERIALS: passages, background on Holocaust, vocab sheet, graphic organizer
MOTIVATION:
(Building background)
Will begin class by assessing and see what the students already know about the topic.

PRESENTATION:
(Language and content objectives, comprehensible input, strategies, interaction, feedback)
Will use repitition with the reading to further more enhance their reading skills as well as memory
of the content. With hard words will help break down the words piece by piece so they can
understand it as well as assissting in creating a defintion understanble for their learning level.

PRACTICE AND APPLICATION:


(Meaningful activities, interaction, strategies, practice and application, feedback)
Will have the students read over the passages alone first then aloud. The students will then be
asked what do they think are important key terms or words they do not understand. Also will ask
what words they do know or recognize and ask for a defintion in their own words.

REVIEW AND ASSESSMENT:


(Review objectives and vocabulary, assess learning)
Students will be asked questions about the meaning and content of the passassges as well as the
meaning of certain words throughout the passasges.

EXTENSION:
plan A:If the material is too easy or is finished early an acitivty will then be in place where the
students will try and create their own passages about the topic and be required to use some of
the key vocab terms discussed in class.

Plan B: If the student does not understand the passages or the history content what will be used
as a visual aid to further more reinforce the information is the usage of a concept map.
