Teacher: Calla Page (under supervision of Tammi Browning)
Title of Lesson: Color wheel
Grade Level: 1st and 2nd grade (2nd on Wednesday)
Anticipated Time Needed for the entire Lesson: 1 class period
Anchor Standard 2: Organize and develop artistic ideas and work.
Enduring Understanding: Artists and designers experiment with forms, structures,
materials, concepts, media, and art-making approaches.
Essential Question: How do artists and designers learn from trial and error?
Content Area Standards:
1st grade- Explore uses of materials and tools to create works of art or design.
2nd grade- Experiment with various materials and tools to explore personal interests in a
work of art or design.
Outcome(s)- Learning Targets
Students Can:
Create a color wheel, and then make the color wheel into something else.
Brief Description of Lesson
Students will be passed out the color wheel work sheet. We will together go over
the color wheel starting with the primary colors. Then the teacher will use water and food
coloring to mix the primary colors and make the secondary colors. We will color them in
together.

Scope and Sequence (Ordered Flow of Lesson)


1. Students will enter the classroom and be asked to sit boy-girl-boy-girl.
2. Class will discuss Primary colors (Primary is the word of the day) (Red, Blue, and
Yellow).
3. Teacher will have students pass out the color wheel worksheet.
4. We will start filling out the work sheet together using the primary colors first.
5. After all the primary colors are colored in we will have an experiment one at a
time. Red and yellow to make orange, red and blue to make purple, and blue and
yellow to make green.
6. We will then color in the secondary colors on our work sheets.
7. After they finish their color wheel they will turn their color wheels into something
else. (turtle, balloon, sun, ect.)
8. Students will clean up. (Students will walk work to the drying rack, and pick up
markers).
Behavior Management:
1, 2, 3 eyes on me 1, 2, eyes on you. (Voices turn off)
Tootsie rolls and lollypops. We were talking now were not. (voices turn off)
If a student is being disruptive with students around him/her they will be moved
the private desk.
Lights off, mouths off
Freeze!!
Es are not to sit by each other.
As are not allowed to sit by each other.
Anticipatory Set
Talk about Primary colors
Secondary are made from primarys.
Assessment
Students will be assessed on their use and understanding of primary colors.
Accommodations:
Jehovah witness in class (no holidays, government, flags)
Be aware of any specific disabilities and individual student needs relating to cognitive,
physical or cultural barriers. Note adaptations.
