January 6, 2011,
Thave had the pleasure of knowing Anthony Lewis for many years. Most recently
‘Anthony completed a Field Placement for Oakland University in my teaching partner's
fifth-grade classroom. He worked most closely with Mrs. Sue O'Brien, but collaborated
with me on mathematics and social studies lessons for his methods coursework.
During the Fall 2010, he completed his student teaching semester with Mrs. O’Brien,
and we met daily to make and review plans for team teaching our classes.
In all of these endeavors, Anthony has shown himself to be a very conscientious and
dedicated worker. He arrived early during each assignment, has handled himself in a
professional manner, and has completed every task given to him with enthusiasm and
creativity. %
During his time in our classrooms, Anthony taught numerous math lessons. He was
always willing to discuss these to enhance them for student learning incorporating
manipulatives and problem solving. He became especially adept at creating an
anticipatory set to “hook” students into the lesson. He is well aware of the Michigan
Grade Level Content Expectations, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics’
(NCTM) Cufriculum and Evaluation Standards, and the Common Core Standards. His
efforts reflected his dedication to changing the traditional methods of teaching
mathematics.
Anthony further demonstrated strong teaching abilities when he taught social studies
classes using a simulation for students to understand the products imported and
exported in the colonies using triangular trade. Further, he was instrumental in
helping revise a Language Arts unit so that students could have more time to learn
vocabulary, prosody, and fluency while maintaining comprehension.
I believe that Anthony has the potential to be an outstanding member of the teaching
profession. His enthusiasm, dedication, and personal high standards are qualities thay
will enable him to achieve.success in future teaching/learning environments. He is
very well qualified for a position as a substitute teacher, support specialist in the
elementary setting, or elementary classroom teacher.
Sincerely,
Lessby A Fenatl
