Tell-Tale Heart

General Competency
Comprehends, interprets and applies strategies to evaluate the text of Tell-tale heart (Edgar Allan Poes tale) in oral and
written way when share his/her opinion and does a story map in classroom.
Performance indicators:
Ss understand and apply strategies to read and hear long texts, manipulate the iPad to use internet in a right
way, respond in good form when is able to find unknown words .

Digital competencies:
Applies knowledge to search unfamiliar words in internet

INSTRUCTIONAL PROCEDURES
Focusing event - Warm up: SS will have five minutes to brainstorm at least five things that the
expect to find in a scary movie .
b. Teaching procedures
Presentation:
a) activate prior knowledge: T Ask if students have heard of Edgar Allan Poe and present information
about his life and why he is called The father of the horror and provide Ss a list his other stories
and poems

b) emphasize function :
* the teacher provides a sheet with the story of the telltale heart and listen to the recording
of the story the Tell-Tale Heart
Guided practice: T Provide some Question for SS

1.
Describe the narrator in detail. What is your first impression of him?

2.
What specifically is it about the old man that troubles the narrator? Why does it
trouble him?

3.
What does the narrator do every night? Why?

4.
How does the narrator feel after he commits the murder? Is he worried about being
caught?

5.
Why does the killer confess?

TIME

Controlled practice: T provides with a list of unfamiliar words and the have to research
for unfamiliar word in internet

Free practice: Now that all students are familiar with the story, T will distribute the story
map sheet for students to work on individually. On this sheet, they must place the events
of the story in the correct order. Students will have approximately 10 minutes to work by
themselves
c. Wrap-up: Ss draw a scene of The story with pictures previously showed by T.
d. Reteach activity (if needed):
e. Student Participation: Ss share their feeling about the Story
f. Closure: Ss Name details, descriptions, or actions that the author uses to create an atmosphere of
horror.
g. Homework: Research more about Edgar Allan Poe works

b. Summative check: T monitors Ss while they work
