Learning Objectives:
WHAT do you want students to think, know, and be able to do?
o Students need to be able to do simple addition and subtraction equations. Students
also need to follow directions for the math games.
HOW will students demonstrate this?
o Students will demonstrate this by completing the tasks they are asked to do, showing
the work and providing correct answers and following directions correctly.

Instructional Strategies and Learning Tasks to Support Learning:

Time

Learning Activities and Purpose

Orientation/Engagement/Motivation:
Engage: I will engage my students by introducing the smart board and
telling them that we are going to learn math in a new way by playing some
new games.
Link this to their lives: I will link this to their lives by letting them know that
they must learn these numbers and equations before they can move on to
the next level and they will be able to do many things with these simple
numbers.
Presentation/Explicit Instruction (teaching/modeling strategies):
I will demonstrate how to do the lesson by giving examples first and
showing them how to play the games with using the numbers.
Structured Practice/Exploration (learning activities):
There are four games on the smart board plan so they will learn how to
play four different math games and how to use counting, math, and
numbers in different ways.
Guided Practice/Feedback (Questions youll ask and feedback youll
provide):
After each game, we will go over the correct answers, how well we did and
if something seems wrong throughout the lesson, I will ask for the correct
answer.
Independent Practice/Application:

After the lesson, I will send students home with a math worksheet they
should be able to do on their own after playing the math games.
Closure (concluding questions):

What was your favorite game?

Did you like addition or subtraction more?

What is 10-2?

What is 4+4?

Instructional Materials and Support:

What materials will you need in order to teach this lesson? Smart board
What materials will students need? Why? The students wont need any materials until the end
when they will need a pencil to work on the worksheet I will have for them.
Assessment:
Assessment description: I plan on assessing my students by seeing what they know about
math numbers, addition and subtraction before, during, and after the lesson.

Formal or informal and rationale: The evaluation will be formal because Im testing them
before, during and after and then keeping track of their improvement.
How will gather information: I will gather my information by keeping a score sheet with each
students name and their score on the worksheet before and after the lesson.
Evidence: The evidence I will have will be the score sheet. Also, the score of the games and
if they improve while playing.
Technology:
Why technology more appropriate: Integrating technology is important because it is a new
way for students to learn and keeps them engaged. Students enjoy participating when its
something on the smart board and want to be helpful.
How it will facilitate learning: The technology will be a way for students to learn and early
learning for future use of smart board lessons.
Back-up plan: If my plan fails, the back-up plan for this lesson will be writing games and
equations up on the board and having students solve them that way.
