#11 Tithing & Giving

1. What does the bible say about Tithing?
When it comes to tithing to God, people always ask the question, how
much should I tithe? We should never question how much as if
there is a set amount, but we should give with a cheerful heart.
As it states in 2 Corinthians 9:7 ESV
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not
reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful
giver.
Many Christian churches have taken the 10% amount and applied it as
the minimum amount a believer should pay to the church; however, it
never says in the New Testament about a set amount. The set amount
of 10% was an amount that God required the Israelites to give under
law in the Old Testament. The Israelites were required to give 10% of
crops and livestock.

2. How should we go about using our finances to

serve the Lord?
In each of our lives as believers, God has blessed us in so many ways
and with those blessing comes responsibility.
A psalm of David. The earth is the Lords and the fullness
thereof, the world and those who dwell therein,
Psalm 24:1
3. Major Gifts
When the church receives gifts of any amount I dont understand why
people want to flash the amount that they give, but when you give
dont give to please men, but give to please your heaven father.
But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know
what your right hand is doing,
Matthew 6:3

4. How shall the Church fund raise for major projects?

The need to fund raise seems like a man made effort, but we can find
the early church in Acts 11, fund raising to help support the church in
Jerusalem. The fund raising began once Paul wrote a letter to the
Churches around the Mediterranean region. This letter gives us a clear
understanding of biblical fund raising.
Now Concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given
orders to the churches of Galatia, so you must do also: On the
first day of the week let each one of you lay something a side,
storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections
when I come. And when I come, whomever you approve by
your letters I will send to bear your gift to Jerusalem. But if it
is fitting that I go also, they will go with me
1 Corinthians 16:1-4
The biblical principle of Pauls letter illustrate to us, today that the
church fund raising of projects is a responsibility that we undertake as
a congregation. Its not about the amount that God cares for when a
believer gives, but its the heart that God is concerned with more. A
good example of this can be found in the Gospel of Mark 12 were a
poor widow woman gave two cooper coins.
