Reflection-Creating Test Questions

25.
September 19, 2013
I liked that we went over what a test may look like and we talked about

the pros and cons of each section based on our reading and previous knowledge of
good questions. That helped me when I was creating questions based on my lesson
plan. However, I felt that this assignment was a lot harder than the last one
because there was no one to bounce ideas off of and I wasnt sure how to vary my
questions based on the subject of the lesson. I felt that I was let loose to create
these questions and I was drowning without a life preserver. However, in the end I
learned how to swim so it had a good lesson in it.

The thing that I struggled most with was how to make questions and
directions on the level of a kindergarten student. Also, because I was testing sound
correspondence with letter recognition, I was having trouble deciding if I should
have the rest of the word written out and just have them fill in the first letter or if I
should leave out the rest of the word and just focus on the letter. I finally decided
on keeping the rest of the word in, because then when they filled in the letter they
would be able to see what the word looks like and that would lead into
understanding the concept of words and how to read them.

In the end, even after all my struggling, I thought this was a good
assignment because I was able to see how hard it was to write just one basic test
and understand that I will have to write these all the time for my classroom. One
thing I wish we couldve done was do this assignment in a group before on a lesson
given to us for the grade level just so we can bounce ideas off of each other. While
the previous assignment was kind of like this, I felt that I was writing those
questions for college students so it was hard to transfer the knowledge into a
kindergarten classroom. All in all, however, I liked the struggle I had to go through

and I appreciate that because of that struggle it will be easier to create questions in
the future.
