Our History course begins the year with an exploration of the worlds geography. In this unit
we investigate different civilizations and cultures; we use geographic themes and skills to gain
a better understanding of our past and the world. We use geography to gain an understanding
of the characteristics of the worlds major continents, countries, and oceans.
Geography (noun): geo = earth and graphy = field of study.
Definition of Geography: Geography is a science that deals with earth's surface. Geography
allows us to study the physical features of the earth and its atmosphere, and how humans affect
and are affected by the natural world.

I can identify and describe the Five Themes of Geography.


I can identify and describe the physical geographic features of the world including continents and major
bodies of water.
I can read a map by identifying the symbols used in the key/legend on the map.
