Precalculus: EOC

My strengths and weaknesses vary within the mathematics area. Whether it is actual
concepts and skills to learn or even being able to fully pay attention in class; they all range
differently. I know for sure that I do struggle with the philosophy behind the mathematical
concept. There were many occasions where we had the privilege to prospect the philosophical
point of view behind some of the concepts we were learning in this course. I really enjoyed
learning that aspect, but in many ways it left me confused. I would have loved to see myself be a
bit stronger in this area because I truly found it useful and intellectually helpful. I also hoped that
I have allowed myself to take in more information than I had. I am strongly aware that I have
struggled with being able to stay focused on the lesson being taught or even a task as simple as
completing my work. This was tough because even when I am quite understanding of the
mechanics of mathematics, I wasnt able to give myself the privilege of fully take in the
information. It was tedious for me as well because there were many incidents where I had to go
home and do some research on my own to understand something. It would have been much more
helpful if I had actually directed my attention towards the class. Overall, I believe that I am
strong in mathematics.
In this course, I definitely learned how closed minded I was to the usefulness of
mathematics. I was aware that it is much needed in our lives, but this being only because former
teachers have drilled that thought into my conscience. This course has taught me how
mathematics is incorporated with the relativity of science, financial situations, sound
coordination, etc. For example, we learned a whole lot about the trigonometry unit. Before I had
taken this course, I was only aware that sine, cosine, and tangent were variables that existed

randomly and are used freely in math. This course has taught me that sine, cosine, and tangent
are all trigonometric ratios that are used to measure waves of sounds and light, two of the most
used energy sources in the world. I knew what waves and frequencies were, but it never crossed
my mind that they would be incorporated with these specific trigonometric ratios.
I feel like this is something that will definitely help me in the future because it is a mean
eye opener for me. It makes me appreciate mathematics much more than I had already before.
The only reason I actually did enjoy mathematics was due to my strong abilities in understanding
it. Now, I know that mathematics has so much more than just being good at it. I truly appreciate
it and admire its relativity to philosophy and science. This is also helpful to me in the future
because philosophy and sciences are my favorite subjects to learn and I see myself learning more
about them in my future. This precalculus course will definitely set me for some form of success
in my near future.
Next year, as I do still have another year to complete in high school, I am planning on
taking the next mathematics class, Calculus. I am quite excited for taking this next course, only
because of how much I enjoyed this course. I would really hope for a challenging course similar
to precalculus. I am sure that my expectation will be met efficiently. I also would really hope that
my attention abilities improve as this course will probably mean much more struggle as it is
more challenging. Overall, I am really satisfied with the outcome of this precalculus course and I
am honestly extremely excited for the next level. I truly hope this is something that all students
feel after taking this course because it truly is a good feeling.
