Instructional Strategies:
Research-based strategies to help students
think critically about the concept/skill

Assessment:
List both formative and summative
assessments that you will use to assess
student understanding. Formative
assessments are given during instruction
(check for understanding), summative are
after completion of instruction (how will you
grade quiz, test, project, paper,
presentation, demonstration, etc.).

minutes.
Formative:
Using Kahoot, students will answer the questions on
the small quiz.

Afterwards have students turn off the iPads, give them to the
leader of the week in the group. Ill call off group numbers at a
time to put away the iPads. Students will also put their materials
away. They put their money bags into their cubby. And their
remaining quarters into their wallet and into their cubby. Then
all students return to their desk, I will call by color of shirts to
line up at the door.
Summative:
Ill review what we learned yesterday, but that isnt
the Summative assessment. That will be coming up at the end of
the unit.

Differentiation
:

Describe who will need additional or

different support during this lesson, and how
you will support them. Differentiated
instruction could include testing
accommodations, preferential seating,
segmented assignments, a copy of the
teachers notes, assignment notebook, peer
tutors, etc.

Summary, Integration and

Reflection:
List the way that you will bring students
together to integrate and reflect on their
learning from this lesson

Accessing Prior Knowledge:

What the different types of coins are and what their value is. Also how to
write the money into two different forms.

Anticipatory Set
: Students will right away be able to get up and get creative with other students about
their topic.
Questions to Anticipate:
I dont understand this. Why does it make this?
If the play money isnt working because they aren't able to recall their values. Make coins that has the
front image and then on the back make the value. Then try to make it close to the size. This way they can
recall their amounts.
Extra time may be needed during activities, and thats okay. Tomorrow they are adding the quarters, so
we will be refreshing on this topic.

Wrap-up Activity and Closure:

I will use the Kahoot quiz feature on the iPad for the students to show
me how much they actually understand.

Homework/ Independent Practice

: At home, have students count money, Only pennies/nickels/dimes.
If they cant use real money, just have them draw the coins out.
Adaptations:
If the play money isnt working because they aren't able to recall their values. Make coins
that has the front image and then on the back make the value. Then try to make it close to the size. This
way they can recall their amounts.

Changes to Future Lessons

: More time would be better when introducing how to count activities.
Maybe even splitting the coins further apart might be helpful for the students.
