NATIONAL EDUCATION PHILOSOPHY (NEP)

MAIN PURPOSE:

To ensure that every individual in the system, from policy


makers and planners to the classroom teachers, the primary
and secondary school students, as well as supporting staffs,
understand and internalize the ultimate goals and the spirit
of the NEP in preparing towards more dynamic,
productive, caring, and humanistic citizens for the
forthcoming challenges in the process of national
development towards attaining the industrial status.

HISTORY OF ITS ESTABLISHMENTS:

The Razak Report (1956)


The Rahman Talib Report (1960)
The Education Act 1961
Report of the Cabinet to Review the Implementation of
Education Policy (1979)

FUNCTIONS OF NEP:
1. Used as a guiding principles in all matters pertaining to
education planning and implementation.
2. To serve as a framework to meet the nine strategic
challenges put forward in the Vision 2020 of Malaysia.

NATIONAL EDUCATION GOALS

To achieve national unity.


To produce quality manpower for national
development.
To achieve democratization of education.

NEP STATES THAT:


Education in Malaysia is an on-going effort towards
further developing the potential of individuals in a holistic
and integrated manner so as to produce individuals who are
intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and physically
balanced and harmonic, based on a firm belief in and
devotion to god. Such an effort is designed to produce
Malaysian citizens who are knowledgeable and competent,
who possess high moral standards and who are responsible
and capable of achieving high level of personal well-being
as well as being able to contribute to the harmony and
betterment of the family, society and nation at large.
