Grade 10
Physical Education 10
Kelsey Bartel
Overall Introduction:
As part of the Physical Education curriculum, the aim is to teach
students how to live a long, healthy and active lifestyle through the
knowledge, skills and attitudes developed through the course. The
week long FUN Fitness unit will remove unhealthy stereotypes of the
fitness craze and provide energetic, functional and simple skills to use
both inside and outside the classroom. This unit will focus on the
methods that students can use to achieving a healthy lifestyle and
body composition all while keeping the activities FUN! Learning basic
techniques, measurement calculations and safety measures, students
will gain a broad perspective of the fitness lifestyle.
Rationale:
In working towards creating a passion for physical activity and
exercise, the Physical Education Program of Studies focuses on the
ability for students to achieve their individual potential as well as
creating a positive future for themselves. In contributing to the
development of lifelong skills, personal management of health,
physical activity as a strategy for managing life challenges and a
setting within which to practice working with others, students have
ample opportunities to reap the benefits of participating in physical
activity. Students are able to use these knowledge, skills and attitudes
both inside and outside the classroom to enhance their daily living and
possibly play a role in the lives of their friends and family. Through
making what is deemed a high intense, physically demanding unit fun,
a desire to participate and learn can begin to affect how a student sees
fitness and physical education classes.
In this unit, students will develop basic skills regarding body
movement,
proper
technique,
body
composition,
training
measurements and general health and wellness. Students will feel
success in this unit, as it will provide room for students to move at
their own pace and foster individual improvement. Each student will
have hands-on experience with the exercises and better their
understanding of being fit. With technology being incorporated into a
predominantly physically active class, students will have opportunities
to see how technology can be used as a positive benefit towards
maintaining health.
