Amiable (adjective): friendly, sociable
o The new kid is very amiable.

Droll (adjective): odd from humor

Exasperation (noun): extreme annoyance
o You could see the exasperation in Julies face.
Flatter (verb): lavish insincere praise and compliments upon
(someone), especially to further one's own interests.
o I am flattered by your compliments.
Gawking (verb): stare stupidly, awkward
o He gawked at her girlfriend for so long that she was
afraid.
Gobbled (verb): eat (something) hurriedly and noisily.
o After a long trip Juan got to his house and gobbled all
the rice.
Grinned (verb): smile broadly, especially in an unrestrained
manner and with the mouth open.
o He grinned at his dog after playing with him.
Groped (verb): to feel with hands
o She groped for the apple but her dog got it first.
Homage (noun): respectful
o His job was to pay homage to his father after the war.
Idle (verb): lacking energy
o After the long game his legs felt idle.
Incantation (noun): magical ceremonies
o The incantation did not work on Jenny.
Interspersed (verb): to spread, scatter
o They where using the playing cards, when the dog ran
by and interspersed all the cards.
Jalopy (noun): old car
o My grandfather used a jalopy yesterday.
Languid (adjective): weak or faint from illness or fatigue

o After the heart surgery he felt to languid.


Lilting (verb): rhythmic swing
o I was impressed by the lilt of her British accent.
Lurching (verb): sudden tip to one side, awkward moment
o Her wife kicked his leg so hard he was lurching to his
left.
Melancholy (adjective): gloomy (dark) state of mind
o Melancholy is not an excuse of crass behavior.
Saucers (noun): a shallow dish, typically having a circular
indentation in the center, on which a cup is placed.

Scuffed (verb): scrape or brush the surface of (a shoe or

Smirked (verb): smile in an irritatingly smug, conceited, or
silly way.

Squatter (noun): a person who unlawfully occupies
inhabited land

Sullen (adjective): bad-tempered and sulky; gloomy
o No one knew what to do about his sullen mood.
Vexation (noun): to annoy
o In vexation, I saw how the dog barked all night; I
couldnt sleep.
