Abstract

Thefollowing paper is a rationale for my decisions to include certain artifacts in my

PDQP project. The domain that I am focusing on this week is Domain F: Developing as a
Professional Educator. The three artifacts that I have chosen are my performance evaluation by
my Principal, a review of an online article, and a five-year plan for my continued professional
development.

Artifact Rationale: Domain F

The TPE that I am focusing on this week is Domain F: Developing as a Professional
Educator. This TPE is one that most great teachers will naturally gravitate to. It is the TPE that I
feel is asking me, How will you as a teacher continue to develop professionally in order to meet
the responsibility of teaching our nations most valuable resource: our young students? I see the
teaching profession as one that requires a hard working, responsible, ambitious, outgoing, and
creative individual. These are only a few characteristics that define great teachers. I remember
the first time I met the parents of all my new students. It was Back-to-School Night and I had a
packed classroom. Thats when I realized that these parents were trusting me to be the best
teacher I could possibly be for their child so that their little boy or girl would have the best year
possible in my class.
My first year there were certain things that I was prepared for, and certain things that I
could only learn through experience. I feel confident that my ongoing experience will help me to
gain confidence in the classroom, but I also know that in order for me to become a great and
effective teacher, the path of continued learning is never ending. This means that I will need to
continue my professional development year after year. I accept this role and I look forward to
becoming the kind of teacher that can pass along my knowledge and experience to not only my
students, but to my learning community of peer teachers and administrators whom I associate
with on a daily basis.
In my PDQP for domain F, I chose to include three artifacts. The first one is a copy of my
Performance Evaluation by my Principal. I received good marks on this evaluation, which shows
that I am on the right track to someday becoming a great teacher. In on online article, Charlotte
Danielson says, A commitment to professional learning is important, not because teaching is of

poor quality and must be "fixed," but rather because teaching is so hard that we can always
improve it. No matter how good a lesson is, we can always make it better. Just as in other
professions, every teacher has the responsibility to be involved in a career-long quest to improve
practice. (Evaluations that Help Teachers Learn, 2011, para. 11).
My second artifact that I included is a review of an online article The Value of
Workshops and Continuing Education for Teachers. I included this review because it informs
the reader of the importance of continued professional development from a teachers point of
view.
The third artifact that I included is a 5-year plan of my professional development. I
included this artifact because I believe that professional development is extremely important for
new and veteran teachers. According to Edutopia (2008), Ongoing professional development
keeps teachers up-to-date on new research on how children learn, emerging technology tools for
the classroom, new curriculum resources, and more. The best professional development is
ongoing, experiential, collaborative, and connected to and derived from working with students
and understanding their culture. (para. 5). I know the teaching profession is a very challenging
career, but with continued professional development I know that it can also be very fulfilling and
rewarding.
