For this project you are going to be choosing and analyzing two maps of a popular tourist
destination (one of which must be contour) and creating a power point of your observations.
Your power point must include a title slide, the pictures of the maps, and the answers to the
following questions:
Who: Who created this map? A specific person? The state/federal government/government
agency? Other?
When: When was the map created? Were both of your chosen maps from the same time? If they
were not, how have the maps changed over time?
What:
What kind of map is it?
Contour
Climate
Physical
Road
Topographic
Other?
Scale
o What is the scale of the map as a fraction?
o Is scale the same for both maps?
o Are the maps considered small or large scale?
o How big of an area is being mapped? (length and width of map)
Title: What is the graphs title? What is the map of? Does the title explain what the map is
of?
Legend/Key: What information is given in the legend?
o There are typically symbols or different colors portrayed in the legend. What do the
symbols mean? What is actually reflected on the map? This could mean:
number and location of bathrooms, picnic areas, handicap accessible areas,
etc.

explanation of the range of hues/colors in the key and then explain what you
actually see in the map.
