Part 1: Assessment Technology

https://b.socrative.com/login/student Students will be asked to enter the teacher

code 7GVDMIZE and then to enter their name to begin quiz. This quiz was created to test
students knowledge and understanding of Georgias Habitats. Through this assessment teacher
can use the data collected to go back and focus on areas of this standard that students did not
excel in. Teachers can provide different activity to the students in the area where they need the
most assistance in. Teachers can use this assessment as a summative assessment. Once the
teachers have given the students a chance to relearn and study the standard you can reassign the
test in which they mix up the questions so students can have a chance to improve their grade, but
can also allow the teacher to see how the students have progressed since they first attempted the
test. This is the answer key to the Georgia Habitats Quiz.

Part 2: Blog Post
Introduction
Teachers have many parts to make up their classroom. Assessments are a major part of a
teacher lesson plans. Assessment takes up a lot of a teachers time in preparing them and then
going back through and grading each one. Teachers in todays 21st century classrooms have
access to millions of different software, apps, and online tools in helping them assess their
students. Through these programs teachers can get instant feedback and providing them with
more time to plan lessons. Teachers can use tools such as sorcative, edmodo, and polleveywhere
in creating a classroom with online assessments. Teacher can also use the tools in providing
formative and summative assessments to their students. With these assessments their will be

some pros and cons that teacher might run into while using this form of assessments. Lets look at
the ways technology can assist teachers in assessing their students.
Technology to Facilitate Ongoing Efforts to Assess Student Learning
Teacher can use technology in many different ways to assess their students learning, In
todays classrooms teacher have access to millions of changing programs, apps, and software that
are available for teacher to show how students are learning and engaging in the lessons that are
being taught. Technology can facilitate new ways of assessing student learning by enabling
students to share work online, enabling teacher to give feedback online, and supporting real-time
feedback on understanding of class concepts (2015). Through technology-mediated
assessment of learning has been shown to support the engagement of students in large classes in
active learning environments. It also offers opportunities to facilitate group formation and
management in collaborative learning task. (p.122). Teacher can use programs such as socrative,
edmodo, polleverywhere to create assessment to assess students understand their students
understanding of lessons that where taught. These programs can be used to created formative and
summative assessment on students.
Sorcative: Socrative is a programs that teacher can create quizzes, quick questions,
space races, and tickets out the door. When using the quiz option teacher can create quizzes with
multiple choice, true or false, and short answer questions. Through this students can see what the
correct answer right away or the teacher can hide that where they will go over answers later.
Teacher can create quick questions to get students polls on the topic they are discussing. When
using this they can use the graph to show students how the class answered the question and then
discuss the results. Space race is where teacher use teams to go through questions they created to
allow the students to have a little friend competition while still learning the material. The last

thing on this site is a ticket out the door. Teacher can use this to see if students understood the
lesson that was taught that day.
Edmodo: With intuitive features and unlimited storage, quickly create groups, assign
homework, schedule quizzes, manage progress, and more, With everything on one platform,
Edmodo reinforces and enhance what you are already doing in the classroom (Edmodo 2015).
Edmodo is secure programs but have the features of Facebook to engage students in the learning
process. Through this site teacher can create assignments to share with students, find video to
show example of lessons. Teachers can also send messages right to students so they make sure
they get their homework done. Teacher can create interaction through this site by engaging
students in learning. This program can also be used on mobile devices.
Polleverywhere: This program lets teachers create polls on the lessons they are teaching
and allows them to see the results lives. Teachers can create multiple-choice polls and use this
feature before they began a new standard or lesson to see how much the students already know
on the subject. Teacher can also create open-ended question so students can see each other
answers without giving away which response is their own. Teacher can create these questions in
the middle of a lesson to make sure that students are following along with the lesson as it is
being taught. Teachers can use the results to focus on the areas that students need the most help
in on a lesson or standard they are teaching.
Formative and Summative Assessments
A formative assessment is the evaluation of student learning based on a specific time
span (Gunter & Gunter p.320). This can be achieved by taking different activities done during
this time span to show that the student is gaining knowledge of topic being taught. A summative
assessment is the process of evaluating the student learning at any given point in time (Gunter

& Gunter p.320) This assessment can be given anytime to make sure that the students are
understanding the content being taught. It can also be done at the end of a unit to show that
students have mastered the standard. Teacher can use sorcative as a formal and summative
assessment. Teacher can use the quick questions, ticket out the door and the space race as
formative assessment to see how well the students understand the lesson being taught. They can
use the quiz section of this program to provide a summative assessment of how well the students
learned the information in the lesson. Teachers can use Edmodo as formal and summative
assessment as well. Teacher use the blogs and other assessment they may plug into this program
to assess the students knowledge. They can also use test and quizzes as summative assessments.
Polleverywhere can be used as a formative assessment as to what students already know on the
topic, what they are learning, and what information they learned through the lessons.
(Pros and Cons of using Technology to Facilitate Assessment) (200 words)
Before technology advanced teachers had to collect data through hard copy, bubble
sheets, and sitting down with each student. With the advent of new technological tools, collecting
data online provides new opportunities for teachers (Topp & Pawloski p. 173). Through
technology teacher do not have to spend all of their time grading and evaluating student answer
they are able to have access to the result right away. This then allows teachers to engage with the
students and provide lessons that can better assist their students. When using technology as your
assessment tool teacher can run into problems of website being down due to upgrade, power
outages, and students know understanding or having the technology to complete the assessment
that is need to be completed. Even though teachers may run into some set backs with technology
we are able to create new opportunities for promoting co-learning and expanding and

innovating students learning through interactive interfaces, digital repositories, mobile devices
and online communities(Yanez, Alexandra, & Ramon p.91).
(Should a teacher only use technology to assess student learning? Why or why not?)
Teachers should use a combination of technology and other forms of assessment.
Teachers might have students who do not perform well when given test or assignments online.
The students could have a fear of not being able to complete the task due to not having the
knowledge they need to about computers. This also might not be the way these students are able
to learn. You also need to collect data in several different forms. This allows students to be
diverse in their learning styles. Using different assessment tools also provides feedback for
teachers to assess children through different assessment which allows a better outlook at the
students knowledge of the content.
What is the importance of assessment technology in connection with the ISTE standards?
Teacher can create lessons that inspire students learning by making the lesson engaging
and hands on for the students. When using technology students can feel as if they have complete
the lesson as well as had a hand in teaching themselves. Teachers are using technology to help
give students experiences in this 21st century class. This allows teachers to use the data to create
classrooms that are engaged and model a since of team work when broken up in groups to
provide additional growth.
Concluding Paragraph for Software to Support Assessment
Teachers now have many different ways to assess students throughout the school year.
Teachers are able to use assessments online to assist in providing the fastest results in showing
that student knowledge in the content areas. Teachers can also uses online assessments for
formative assessment to monitor the progress throughout the year. They can also use this for

summative assessment to see what knowledge the students have learned on the content. Teachers
have a wide selection of software, apps, and online tools to assist them in creating a more
engaging classroom, for the 21st century.
