nbelievably, most of us corry more technology in
our pockets than Neil Armstrong used to go to the
Moon. Car factories with thousands of workers have
now been replaced by one technician controlling
hundreds of robots. The US president, Bill Clinton, was,
one of the first people to get an email address. Now,
millions of people are connected to each other all
over the world.
I's clear that technology has completely
changed the way we work and interact. However
there is one exception: Education. A Victorian school-
teacher could enter a twenty first century classroom
‘nd feel completely at home. Whiteboards may have
eliminated chalk dust, but a teacher still stands in
front of the class, talking, testing and questioning
But this won't be for long. Technology is
already bringing about a complete change in educo-
tion and at SBS, this is one of our goals. Many teach-
ers here have already started using social media to
Communicate with parents and students. This is one
example where we use technology to deal with tasks
more efficiently. This is really what ICT is all about
having the technological literacy to deal with tasks or
problems in an effective way.
Almost every field of work now depends on
technology, so it is important we all have the know!-
edge and skills to prosper in today’s IT society. SBS’
ICT program aims to use technology in imaginative
and effective ways to build the IT literacy that our
students need to open the doors toa wide range of
future professions. ICT also aims to integrate
technology into other subjects, for example Biology,
showing 30 images
of the heart pumping
blood through valves
Technology like this
can really make a
difference to students’ understanding, ond help them
‘acquire complicated skis and knowledge in an enjoya-
ble way. Parents can olso benefit because when they
check the school’s website, Student Academic
System, or school social media site, they unknowingly
Practice and learn IT stills,
A lot of people resist change and are afraid of,
technology, but with the right frame of mind, no one
is too old to learn new things. Demand for IT literacy
will only grow in the years ahead. To get a job, young
people will have to depend upon their IT skills and
knowledge. This is the gap SBS ICT is working hard to
fil
