Text book:

R.G Budynas, J. K. Nisbett, Mechanical Engineering Design, 10th Ed., McGraw Hill, 2015 (every student must have a copy of this book).

Other sources:

M.F. Spotts, et al, Design of Machine Elements, 8th Ed., Prentice Hall. 2004
R.C. Juvinall, K.M. Marshek, Fundamentals of Machine Components Design,
4th Ed., Wiley, 2005

Objective:

To develop the knowledge to design machine components that can be used as a

tool for mechanical engineering design. Strength of materials theory serves as
the basis for understanding of mechanical behavior of machine elements and
for deriving design equations.

Assessment:

Assignments
Project
Midterm
Final exam

Examination:

Examinations will be open book

Tentative date for midterm: Tuesday, June 17.

Assignments:

Assignments will be given out during the week and they must be handed it at
the next tutorial class. Quizzes could be given at beginning of each tutorial too.
Attending the tutorial sessions is obligatory.

Project:

The list of projects will be given at the beginning of the course and the project
must be handed in about a week after the final exam. The exact date will be
announced in July.
