Summary: The students will visit an educational website
and take notes about the following explorers: Christopher
Columbus, Ferdinand Magellan, Amerigo Vespucci, Robert
de La Salle , Hernando de Soto, Henry Hudson, Jacques
Cartier.

Learning Objective: Once students have watched the


video, they will be able to answer questions regarding
the video.

Content Standard: 4.4 Trace the routes of early


explorers and describe the early explorations of the
Americas, including: (C, E, G, H, P, TN)

Visit the website listed below and search for:


Christopher Columbus, Ferdinand Magellan, Amerigo
Vespucci, Robert de La Salle , Hernando de Soto,
Henry Hudson, Jacques Cartier.

Take detailed notes about each explorer so you will


be able to answer questions correctly later in the
power point. Please write down at least 2 facts about
each explorer and take note to what each one looks
like.

Christopher Columbus- An Italian explorer who sailed across the Atlantic Ocean
in 1492, hoping to find a route to India.

Ferdinand Magellan- was a Portuguese explorer who led the first expedition that
sailed around the Earth.

Amerigo Vespucci- An Italian explorer who was the first person to realize that
the Americas were separate from the continent of Asia.

Robert de La Salle- A French explorer sent by King Louis XIV to travel south from
Canada and sail down the Mississippi River to the Gulf of Mexico.

Hernando de Soto- was a Spanish explorer who sailed the Atlantic Ocean and
was the first European to explore Florida and the Southeastern US.

Henry Hudson- Was an English explorer and navigator who explored parts of the
