Purpose of Principal Training

A Committee of the School Board is presently drafting a Gender
Inclusion Policy that would clarify the expectations of the District in
regards to transgender and gender variant youth. This policy is likely to
address:
the use of students preferred names and pronouns;
how and when students are grouped based on sex and/or
gender;
students opportunities to participate in sports; and,
students access to school district facilities including restrooms
and locker rooms.

As this work progresses, it is important that all of our principals

participate in training that will prepare them for engaging families,
students, and staff in supporting transgender and gender variant
students in St. Paul Public Schools.
Principal Training
Beyond Courage: Leading for Gender Inclusion, focusses on:
Understanding the barriers to safety and academic achievement
that transgender and gender variant students may experience;
Providing supports to transgender and gender variant students;
Making connections to existing school district policies and
initiatives that empower principals to lead on behalf of
transgender and gender variant students; and,
Familiarizing principals with the supports offered to within the
district to assist them in their work.
