Meiosis by

Prophase I

The nuclear envelope breaks down

The centrosomes start to split
Chromosomes pair, align and crossover
Microtubules attach to homologous by the
kinetochore

Metaphase I
Pairs of homologous align to the metaphase
plate
Centrosomes are pulled to the poles

Anaphase I
Breakdown of protein
Homologs move to opposite poles

Telophase I and Cytokinesis

The cleavage furrow separates the cell
Cytokinesis occurs creating 2 haploid cells

Prophase II
The spindle appears
The 2 chromatids move to the metaphase II
plate

Metaphase II
Chromosomes line at the plate
Kinetochores attach to microtubules

Anaphase II
Sister chromatid separate
Microtubules pull them apart

Telophase II and Cytokinesis

The cell separates into 2 haploid cells
