At work. On a team. In a family. For four years. For eight hours. All season. Your whole life. Your geography is limited. Love it or hate it, you can only be in one place at a time. But you can do more than just survive. You can embrace your place. God placed you here. And He's here too. The book of Daniel is an ancient story with modern implications. A group of teenagers were exiled to a foreign land, left to deal with the reality of life in a diverse world. In the shadow of Babylon, they learned it is possible to speak the language of a culture yet still worship God. It's possible to long for home but still speak truth with love and grace. The Kingdom needs you to bless the country — not the other way around. This was Daniel's story. And it's your story too. HSM Summer Camp invites you to look at your own life through the life of Daniel. To join the beautiful resistance ... To stop hating culture and start creating culture ... To live life under the rule of the King ... To pray a new prayer ... You are here. SUMMER CAMP DAILY THEME DAY 1: GOD IS HERE On night 1 of summer camp we will expose students to the story of Daniel and his three friends. We'll talk about God being present in our lives even when we have been stripped of everything in our comfort zone. Students will be asked if they live with a constant awareness of God even when things seem bleak. DAY 2: GOD IS KING Society has us all caught up in making everything but God our king. Your life is a reflection of whom or what you make king. As we look at Daniel’s story, we'll learn that when we place God as our King we have peace and comfort that will outlast all other earthly things. DAY 3: GOD IS NEAR God’s people stand together in community when faced with challenges. Day three of camp will take a look at what happens when we share a common vision and commitment in our friendships. We'll look at what happened to Daniel and his friends as they entered the furnace. God was near. DAY 4: GOD IS GOD As we look at the life of King Nebuchadnezzar we realize we all can relate. However, we need to aware of letting pride and selfishness rule our hearts. There is hope for us as we turn to God and learn that God is God and there is a place for reverent fear of the Lord. Our response to God is worship. DAY 5: GOD IS THERE Our final day of camp will take us to trust that God is where he sends us to. There is a tension in Kingdom living. We are to live in the world but not live as the world. Today we'll send students out into the world with a kingdom worker challenge, knowing God has gone before them to prepare the way. HSM SUMMER CAMP VOCAB MORNING SHOW Make sure you are ready each morning for the Summer camp Morning Show. The Morning Show is designed to wake students up each day through funny videos, skits, and whatever crazy ideas we come up with. ENCOUNTER TIME: DEVOTIONAL TIME Following the Morning Session, you will be dismissed to your Encounter Time and cabin group. This is an opportunity for you to participate in devotions from your student booklet. If you have any questions, look to your leaders, as they will be prepared to help you make the most of this time. . HSM SUMMER CAMP THE ALTERNATIVE: TALENT SHOW On this night, we give you the opportunity to share your talents (singing, instrumental, bands, skits, poetry, comedic, etc.). You may sign up for The Alternative at the Summer Camp Station, but do so quickly as spots are limited and fill up right away. Come rehearsed and ready to amaze your fellow Summer Camp attendees. There will be auditions! Sorry, not everyone will get onstage! STUDENT CAMP TESTIMONY Bobbi Thompson| Junior| Crean Lutheran High School "HSM camp is a safe place filled with love where I can grow closer in my relationship with Jesus. I always have fun meeting new people and beginning new friendships. Camp changes lives and is an unforgettable experience.” KINGDOM WORKER CARDS ‘At Summer Camp, students are challenged to be Kingdom workers, using their talents and abilities, leveraging their influence, and even using their future career to spread the message of Christ. They are challenged to not only grow in their faith in Christ, but to also show the love of Jesus to the world around them. Summer Camp encourages students to make a difference no matter where they are or what they do. This year, students will leave Summer Camp with a specific, seemingly random Kingdom Work Challenge. Thousands of students leave camp every summer ready to make a difference in the world. And guess what... they really do! We've seen countless high school students change the world, What we want to know is... who’s next? Is it you? HSM WANTS TO HELP WITH YOUR STUDENT ACCOMPLISH THEIR KINGDOM WORKER CARDS! We have over 200 volunteers at camp that radically care about your student and are passionate about seeing them grow in their relationship with the Lord. We thought we would take the time for you to meet just a few of them and hear about their heart for high school students and Summer Camp! ABBY GARCIA Going to summer camp as a leader is the highlight of my year. fy Everything from team rec games to worship sessions, create = bonding experiences for life groups. All of the camp experiences help students see that God is pursuing them and loving them unconditionally no matter where they are at in life. As much fun as camp is, true joy as a leader, comes 4 through leading students to pursue God in every aspect of their life! It’s a humbling experience to know that God works in me as a leader at camp as much as he works in the lives of my students. MATT REYNOLDS To me, summer camp is a definite "game changer" in a » student's spiritual growth. It's a time when students are so I) accepting to opening up and letting the Holy Spirit in. I've s) had several students in my Life Groups over the years tell me that Summer Camp was a turning point for them in their walk with God. No matter what level your student is at in their 4 relationship with Jesus, Summer Camp will help stretch and grow their faith. Camp truly changes everything! SUMMER CAMP BAPTISMS WHATIS BAPTISM: Baptism is an awesome celebration! The Bible shows us that baptism is an outward expression of someone putting their faith, hope, and life in Jesus Christ. Jesus is not just some hobby added onto their life, but he has now become their Lord and Savior. Christian baptism of full emersion (whole body under water) is us obeying what Jesus did when he was baptized in Matthew 3:13-17 & Mark 1:10. Baptism is like a visible action showing that the person getting baptized is going to live for Jesus Christ for the rest of their lives (Matt.28:19-20; Rom. 6:1-11; 1 Cor.12:13). WHY WE BAPTIZE AT CAMP: Camp is an amazing time of being surrounded by Christians, learning about Christ, having fun, and asking some deep life questions. Many times we have seen students come to faith in Jesus Christ while at camp. The Bible is very clear (Mark 1:3; Luke 3:3; Matt 28:19; Acts 2:38) that those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ should be baptized. We will have a Baptism Class that every student will go through in order to get baptized and a part of that class is calling their parents or guardians to ask for permission to get baptized. Some of the questions that we will ask in the class to the student are :: + Have you been baptized before? If so, at what age and where? + Tell me about your journey with Christ. When did you accept the Lord? How would you describe your walk with Him now? + What does baptism mean to you? + Why do you want to be baptized and why now? You do have the voice as their parent or guardian to say no to the baptism. We want to honor and respect your role in the life of your student, so please know that itis ok to say no. WHEN: We will baptize at camp on Wednesday and at our Summer Camp Reunion on August 5th in the Worship Center. NEED MORE INFO: Please contact us at hsm@saddleback.com. NEXT STEPS: LIFE GROUPS WHAT ARE LIFE GROUPS? Life groups are where students get to meet Once a week to fellowship and grow in their walk with God. The time is spent going through curriculum, which consists of a weekly study, or lesson that will go though stories in the Bible, frequently asked questions about God, and thinking deeper about faith and why we believe what we do. WHY WE DO LIFE GROUPS? We believe Life Groups aré‘an amazing time for students to have a personal community that is a safe zone to talk about anything going on in life, to grow in their faith together with friends, have a fun time, and a place for accountability to take place. WHEN DO THEY START? Life Group registration opens up on July 25th and Life Groups start in October. Groups meet during the school year on Tuesday night or Wednesday night at 7 p.m. WHAT ABOUT MY LEADER? If your student is already in a Life Group, that’s awesome! Camp is a great way to continue those relationships. If your student is not in a life group, no problem! One of the biggest ways that Life Groups are formed is through Summer Camp with either the cabins they were in or with friends they met during summer camp, and they can choose to pick their leader at camp to be their Life Group leader for the year or next few years. eae day St OP) $40 HSMLIFEGROUPS.COM NEED MORE INFO?
