Proceedings of the Day:
We were welcomed by Pawan Ji, who is a staff member of Sarthak. He is a
delightful person to talk to. Next we met Ms. Kirti, Project Manager of Sarthak,
with whom we had a brief interaction. She also handed us the Annual Reports
(2014), Brochures and leaflets of Sarthak.
We were then briefed by Mr. Ajit Singh, who gave us more insights about
Sarthak and what are the various challenges this NGO is facing in terms of
visibility and funds. He also suggested if we could think of some ways to raise
funds for Sarthak. Mr. Ajit also gave us ample material and videos to get a better
understanding of the ways of working at Sarthak and how this NGO was
conceived.
We spent some quality time in going through many documents for about 2 hours.
Meanwhile we also met some VI (Visually Impaired), HI (Hearing Impaired) & OH
(Orthopaedic Handicapped) students as well staff members. Never for a moment,
we felt we were amongst PWDs (people with disability). They are punctual and
they learn and work with zeal which is commendable! They also have their
moments of office fun.
Finally, we met Dr. Jitender Aggarwal, Founder & CEO of Sarthak, Educational
Trust. After a brief introduction session( where he spoke about himself and four of
us also spoke in turn), we had an interesting and insightful Q&A round.
Dr. Aggarwals questions to us:
1. Are you really interested in this voluntary work or were you forced by your
college?
2. Do you think the problems in our society still exists despite Lakhs of NGOs
operating in India?
3. He also asked us to create a Mass Awareness Strategy for Sarthak.
Our questions:
1. What is the mindset of the parents of the PWDs? Is it still what was
50years back or has there been any positive changes in their minds? Do
they still sulk when a child with disability is born or now our society is
more welcoming?
2. Seeked more information about Early Intervention Centre of Sarthak and
how this model works?

The session with Dr. Aggarwal was truly an enlightening one, he is a true
visionary. Our expectations were set on the very first day. We presented a
roadmap of what all we plan to do in the next at least 2 visits and also we came
to know about that Sarthak has working hours from 10 to 5.
All in all it was a great day for each one of us!
