WHO WE ARE
When Manuel Alorda founded KETTAL in 1964, he also set a style
and a way of thinking beyond fashions. This work has evolved over
time. Now in its second generation, the process has changed but
the objective remains the same, in keeping with its tradition and
its history: a calm, timeless design combined with quality and the
enjoyment of the senses.

En 1964 cundo Manuel Alorda fund KETTAL, marc tambin un

estilo y una manera de pensar al margen de modas. El paso de los aos
ha servido para evolucionar este trabajo. En la actualidad, con la llegada
de la segunda generacin, el proceso es distinto pero el objetivo sigue
siendo el mismo, fiel a su tradicin y a su historia: un diseo tranquilo,
atemporal y unido a la calidad.

Als Manuel Alorda im Jahr 1964 das Unternehmen KETTAL grndete,

gab er damit auch einen neuen Stil und eine neue, von Moden unabhngige
Denkweise vor. Im Laufe der Jahre hat sich dieser Ansatz weiterent
wickelt. Mit der zweiten Generation hat sich der Ablauf gendert. Das
Ziel ist jedoch der Tradition und Geschichte des Unternehmens treu
geblieben: die Kombination eines ruhigen, zeitlosen Designs mit qualitts
voller Verarbeitung und Sinnesfreude.

Lorsque Manuel Alorda fonde KETTAL en 1964, il cre aussi un style et une
manire de penser en marge de la mode. Le temps a permis de faire voluer
ce travail. Aujourdhui, avec larrive de la deuxime gnration, le processus
est diffrent, mais lobjectif est toujours le mme, fidle sa tradition et son
histoire: un design paisible, intemporel, associ la qualit et au plaisir
des sens.

Quando nel 1964 Manuel Alorda fond KETTAL, segn anche uno stile e
un modo di pensare al margine delle mode. Con il passare degli anni,
questo lavoro progredito. Attualmente, con larrivo della seconda generazione, il processo distinto ma lobiettivo rimasto lo stesso, fedele
alla sua tradizione e alla sua storia: un design tranquillo, atemporale, unito

Kettal is a family business established in Europe in 1964. Today,

all the products in the catalogue are designed and manufactured
in the firms plant in a small coastal town 45 km from Barcelona.
This lends products European quality, with every detail taken care of.
In addition, the closeness of the factory means that products can
be customised to meet clients needs, making each piece of furniture
unique and exclusive.

Desde 1964, ao de su fundacin, Kettal, empresa familiar, esta afincada

en Europa. Actualmente, todos los productos del catlogo se disean y
se fabrican en la planta que la marca tiene en un pequeo pueblo
costero a 45 km de Barcelona. Esto permite dotar a los productos de
una gran calidad europea, controlando da a da hasta el ltimo detalle.
As mismo la proximidad de la factora permite personalizar cada pro
ducto segn las necesidades del cliente, haciendo cada mueble nico
y exclusivo.

Seit seiner Grndung im Jahr 1964 ist das Familienunternehmen in

Europa ansssig. Derzeit werden alle Produkte des Katalogs in dem
firmeneigenen Werk entworfen und hergestellt, das sich 45 km von
Barcelona entfernt in einem kleinen Kstenort befindet. Auf diese Weise
knnen wir jeden Tag selbst die kleinsten Details kontrollieren und die
Produkte mit der besten europischen Qualitt ausstatten. Die Nhe
des Werks ermglicht es uns auch, jedes Produkt nach den Anforderungen
des Kunden zu individualisieren und damit jedes Mbelstck einzigartig
und exklusiv zu gestalten.

Depuis 1964, anne de sa cration, lentreprise familiale Kettal est tablie

en Europe. Actuellement, tous les produits du catalogue sont conus et
fabriqus dans une usine appartenant la marque qui se trouve dans un
petit village du littoral, 45 km de Barcelone. Les produits, de haute
qualit europenne, sont contrls jour aprs jour dans le moindre dtail.
De la mme manire, la proximit de lusine permet de personnaliser les produits
en fonction des besoins du client, chaque meuble devenant ainsi unique et
exclusif.

Kettal presente in Europa fin dal 1964, anno della sua costituzione come
azienda familiare. Attualmente tutti i prodotti del catalogo si disegnano e
fabbricano nella fabbrica della nostra ditta, in piccolo villaggio costiero a
45 km da Barcellona. Questo le permette di dotare i prodotti di una gran
qualit europea, controllandoli quotidianamente fin nei minimi dettagli. La
prossimit della fabbrica permette inoltre di personalizzare ciascun prodotto
in base alle necessit del cliente, rendendo ogni mobile unico ed esclusivo.

Jasper Morrison, born 1959 in London, studied at the Royal College

of Art in London. He pursued further studies at the Hochschule
der Knste in Berlin on a fellowship. In 1986 he founded his own
design studio in London. Jasper Morrison became a leading figure
of New Simplicity, a movement that advocated a more modest and
also more serious approach to design. In addition to furniture, he
has also created lamps, home accessories, textiles, a tram system
for the city of Hanover...

A Spanish architect based in Milan, she stands out for the original
designs of objects and furniture that she produces for the best
and most important international firms. The designer of some of the
most emblematic pieces in the current range, she created the Maia
collection, one of her most characteristic works, for Kettal. AD
Architecture Design Award 2008.

Jasper Morrison nace en 1959 en Londres (Inglaterra). Estudia en la

Real Escuela de Arte de Londres y, despus, se traslada a la Escuela
Superior de Arte de Berln gracias a una beca. En 1986 abre su propio
estudio de diseo en Londres. Jasper Morrison se convierte en el
precursor de la Nueva simplicidad, una tendencia que preconiza
una interpretacin humilde y, al mismo tiempo, ms seria del diseo.

Arquitecta espaola afincada en Miln, destaca por los originales

Hella Jongerius has become known for the special way she fuses
industry and craft, high and low tech, tradition and the contemporary. After graduating Eindhoven Design Academy, she started
her own design company, Jongeriuslab, through which she produces
her own projects and projects for Maharam, Royal Tichelaar Makkum, and Vitra. Her work has been shown at museums and the best
galleries.

The Danish designers Nanna and Jrgen Ditzel exhibited their first
furniture designs in Copenhagen when they were still students at
the Industrial Arts and Crafts College, Copenhagen. When they completed their education as furniture designers, they married in 1946
and established a design studio. After Jrgen Ditzels death in 1961,
Nanna continued to design, and in 1968 she moved to London where
she established the Interspace International Furniture and Design
Centre, an institution which developed a high reputation as a centre
for experimental design during the subsequent 15 years. Nanna Ditzel
returned to Denmark in 1986 and opened a combined design studio
and furniture workshop in Copenhagen until her death on 2005.

After graduating from Londons Central Saint Martins College of

Art and Design with a masters degree in Industrial Design, they
set up the Emiliana Design Studio in Barcelona in 1996. Ana and
Emilis work is characterised by its ability to give each project
a fresh conceptual approach, experimentation with materials, and
for proactively involving the user without compromising functional,
technical or production aspects.

Hella Jongerius se ha dado a conocer por la originalidad con la que

fusiona artesana e industria, manualidad y alta tecnologa, lo tradi
cional y lo contemporneo. Tras obtener el ttulo en la Escuela de Diseo
de Eindhoven, cre su propio estudio, Jongeriuslab. En la actualidad
elabora proyectos para Maharam, Royal Tichelaar Makkum, y Vitra,
adems de los suyos propios. Su obra se ha expuesto en museos y en
las principales galeras de arte.

Los diseadores daneses Nanna y Jrgen Ditzel expusieron sus primeros

diseos de mobiliario en Copenhague cuando todava eran estudian
tes de la Escuela Industrial de Artes y Oficios de Copenhague. Tras
completar su formacin como diseadores de mobiliario, se casaron
en 1946 y crearon su propio estudio de diseo. Tras la muerte de Jrgen
Ditzel en 1961, Nanna continu diseando, y en 1968 se mud a Londres,
donde estableci el Interspace International Furniture and Design
Centre, una institucin que adquiri una notable reputacin como

con los materiales y por involucrar al usuario de manera activa, sin
olvidar aspectos funcionales, tcnicos y productivos.

Hella Jongerius wurde bekannt fr ihre ungewhnliche Art und Weise

Industrie und Handwerk, High- und Low-Tech, Tradition und Zeitgens
sisches zu kombinieren. Nach dem Abschluss der Design Academy in
Eindhoven grndete sie ihre eigene Agentur Jongeriuslab und entwirft
heute nicht nur zahlreiche eigene Projekte sondern ist auch fr Maharam,
Royal Tichelaar Makkum, und Vitra ttig. Ihre Arbeiten wurden in ver
schiedenen Museen und den besten Galerien ausgestellt.

Die dnischen Designer Nanna und Jrgen Ditzel stellten ihre ersten
Mbelentwrfe in Kopenhagen aus, als beide noch an der dortigen
Kunstakademie fr Industriedesign studierten. Nach Abschluss ihres
Mbeldesign-Studiums heirateten sie 1946 und machten ein Design
studio auf. Nach Jrgen Ditzels Tod im Jahre 1961 war Nanna auch
weiterhin als Designerin ttig. 1968 zog sie nach London, wo sie das
internationale Mbel- und Designhaus Interspace erffnete, eine
Einrichtung, die in den folgenden 15 Jahren groes Renommee als
Zentrum fr experimentelles Design erlangte. 1986 kehrte Nanna
Ditzel nach Dnemark zurck und erffnete eine Design- und Mbel
werkstatt in Kopenhagen bis zu ihrem Tod 2005 auf.

Landscape aims to be part of

a project. It is not understood
as an item apart, but instead
relates to its environment and
melds with it. It is the project that
is important, not the product, and
this is its essence. Its rationalist
construction seeks to give order,
form and structure to the outdoor
space, although, in terms of
function, it has been designed to
give shelter: to shade and cool
or protect from the rain and wind.

PAVILIONS
Landscape pretende formar parte
de un proyecto. No se entiende
como un elemento exento, sino que
se relaciona con su entorno y pasa a
formar parte de l. Es ms importante
el proyecto, que el producto y esa es
su esencia. Su estructura racionalista
busca dar orden, forma y estructura al
espacio exterior, aunque funcional
mente est concebido para dar cobijo:
controlar luz y el calor o proteger
de la lluvia y del viento.

Landscape ist als Teil eines Projekts

gedacht. Es ist nicht als allein
stehendes Element zu verstehen,
sondern verbindet sich mit seiner
Umgebung und wird Teil derselben.
Das Projekt ist wichtiger als das
Produkt; das ist seine Quintessenz.
Seine rationalistische Struktur soll
den Auenraum ordnen, formen und
strukturieren und gleichzeitig auf der
funktionellen Ebene Schutz bieten:
Lichteinfall und Wrme regeln und
vor Regen und Wind schtzen.

Landscape mira a essere parte di un

progetto. Non pensata come un
elemento separato, ma legata al
suo ambiente e diventa parte di esso.
Il progetto pi importante del prodotto,
e questa la sua essenza. La sua
struttura razionalista cerca di dare ordine,
forma e configurazione allo spazio
esterno, anche se funzionalmente
progettata per dare riparo: controllare
la luce e il calore o proteggere dalla
pioggia e dal vento.

This collection combines natural

and industrial materials, hard and
soft surfaces as well as transparent
and opaque volumes. The expanded
metal used is reminiscent of building
facades that let in light and air
while keeping the elements out and
provides support for the cushions.
The slight slope of the sofa armrests
lends delicacy to this industrial
structure. The sofas solid wooden
base and ample, comfortable
upholstery give the impression of
a cosy living room, only outdoors.

Esta coleccin combina materiales
naturales e industriales, superficies
duras y blandas, y volmenes transpa
rentes y opacos. El metal expandido
empleado, recuerda ciertas fachadas
arquitectnicas que aslan del entorno
sin impedir el paso de la luz ni la
circulacin del aire, al tiempo que
acta de soporte para los cojines. La
ligera inclinacin de los reposabrazos
del sof aporta delicadeza a esta
estructura industrial. La slida base
de madera del sof y la voluminosa y
confortable tapicera evocan la
sensacin de una acogedora sala de
estar trasladada al exterior.

und weiche Oberflchen sowie
transparente und undurchsichtige
Elemente. Das verarbeitete Streck
metall, das den Polstern Halt bietet,
erinnert an Gebudefassaden, die das
Innere abschlieen und gleichzeitig
Licht und Luft hineinlassen. Durch die
leichte Neigung der Armlehnen wirkt
das industriell anmutende Sofa leichter
und zarter. Die solide Holzbasis und die
voluminsen, sehr bequemen Polster
lassen das Sofa wie ein Mbelstck aus
einem einladenden Wohnzimmer wirken,
das in den Auenbereich verlegt wurde.

naturels et industriels, des surfaces
dures et souples ainsi que des volumes
transparents et opaques. Le mtal
expans voque certaines faades
architecturales qui isolent de lextrieur
sans empcher le passage de la lumire
ni la circulation de lair, et sert de
support pour les coussins. La lgre
inclinaison des accoudoirs du canap
apporte de la dlicatesse cette structure
industrielle. La solidit de la base en
bois du canap et sa tapisserie volumineuse et confortable rappellent les
sensations dune salle de sjour
accueillante transpose lextrieur.

Una collezione che riunisce materiali

naturali e industriali, superfici dure e
morbide, volumi trasparenti e opachi.
Il metallo espanso utilizzato ricorda
certe facciate architettoniche che
isolano lambiente senza ostacolare il
passaggio della luce n la circolazione
dellaria, fungendo allo stesso tempo
da supporto per i cuscinetti. La lieve
inclinazione dei braccioli del divano
conferisce delicatezza a questa
struttura industriale. La solida base in
legno e la voluminosa e confortevole
tappezzeria evocano la sensazione
di un accogliente salotto trasferito
allesterno.

In 1950 Nanna and Jrgen Ditzel

created an unusual bowl-shaped
seat, essentially a basket hanging
from a light oak frame, achieving a
chair design that blended the seat
and backrest into a bowl of a form
consistent with a shell, outstanding
for being organic in its form and in
its materials. The use of craft
materials and painstaking skill in
making the rounded form, along
with the chairs pure lines give a
sensation of comfort and luxury in
a seat that allows a variety of
positions.

BASKET
Nanna y Jrgen Ditzel en 1950
crearon un inusual asiento con
forma de cuenco, esencialmente una
cesta suspendida de un marco ligero
de roble, conseguiendo un diseo
de silla que fusionase el asiento
y el respaldo en un cuenco con una
forma coherente de concha, que se
distingui por ser orgnica en su
forma y tambin en sus materiales.
El uso de materiales de artesana y
la cuidadosa pericia a la hora de
elaborar la forma redondeada y las
lneas puras de la silla desprenden
una sensacin de comodidad y lujo en
un asiento que permite una amplia
variedad de posiciones.

Nanna und Jrgen Ditzel kreierten

1950 einen ungewhnlichen, schssel
frmigen Stuhl, der im Wesentlichen
aus einem leichten Eichenholz-Rahmen
mit einem hngenden Korb bestand.
Auf diese Weise schufen sie ein
Stuhldesign, bei dem Sitzflche
und Rckenlehne in einer kohrenten,
organischen Schssel- bzw. Muschel
form unter Verwendung organischer
Materialien miteinander verschmelzen.
Der Einsatz von handwerklichen
Materialien vermittelt gemeinsam mit
der Sorgfalt und Geschicklichkeit bei
der Erstellung der runden Form und
den schlichten Linien des Stuhls ein
Gefhl der Bequemlichkeit und des
Luxus, das durch die verstellbaren
Positionen noch unterstrichen wird.

de panier suspendu avec une structure
lgre en chne. La fusion de lassise
et du dossier en un cocoon propose
un design cohrent qui a t remarqu

Lusage de matriaux traditionnels, la
minutie dans la conception de cette
forme arrondie et les lignes pures du
sige inspirent une sensation de
confort, de luxe, avec une assise qui
permet de nombreuses positions.

1950 uninsolita poltrona a forma di
ciotola, costituita essenzialmente da
una cesta sospesa a una leggera
intelaiatura di rovere, per ottenere una
poltrona dove il sedile e lo schienale
si fondessero in modo coerente in
un recipiente concavo a conchiglia,
caratterizzata dallorganicit della
forma e dei materiali. Limpiego di
materiali artigianali e una perizia
meticolosa al momento di elaborare l
a forma arrotondata e le linee della
sedia, infondono un senso di comfort
e di lusso in un oggetto configurabile
in unampia variet di posizioni.

Kettal Bitta is characterised by a

combination of aluminium frames,
seats of braided polyester and
comfortable cushions, teak and
stone for the table tops-all
completely weatherproof materials.
The intention of the designer was
to create dense braiding that would
still let the air through, reminiscent
of the braiding of the ropes used to
moor boats (hence the name Bitta,
which means mooring in Italian),
which makes the pieces look
lightweight but, at the same time,
they look just like cosy nests in
natural colours to sit back and
relax in.

Kettal Bitta se caracteriza por una
combinacin de estructuras de
aluminio, asientos trenzados con
cuerda de polister y cmodos
cojines, madera de teka y piedra
para los sobres de mesa, materiales
perfectamente resistentes a la
intemperie. La intencin del
diseador era crear un trenzado
denso pero que respirara que
recordara el trenzado de los cabos
que se utiliza para amarrar las barcas
a los amarraderos (de ah el nombre
Bitta, que significa amarradero en
italiano), que confiriera a las piezas
una sensacin de ligereza pero, que
stas se vieran como nidos acogedores
en tonos naturales en los que relajarse.

Kettal Bitta zeichnet sich durch ihre

besondere Materialkombination aus:
Aluminiumstrukturen, mit Polyester
kordeln geflochtene Sitzflchen und
bequeme Stoff-kissen und Tischflchen
aus Teakholz und Stein. Alle verwendeten
Materialien sind ausgesprochen wetter
bestndig. Die Absicht des Designers
war, ein dichtes Geflecht zu gestalten, das
dennoch atmungsaktiv ist es sollte an die
geflochtenen Taue erinnern, mit denen
die Boote an den Anlegestegen festgezurrt
werden (daher auch der Name Bitta, das
italienische Wort fr Anlege-steg) und
das den Mbelstcken einerseits Leichtig
keit verleihen sollte, gleichzeitig aber
auch den Eindruck eines behaglichen, in
Naturtnen gehaltenen Nestes vermitteln
sollte, das zum Entspannen einldt.

in corde di poliestere e confortevoli
cuscinature, e teak e pietra per i piani
dei tavoli, materiali perfettamente
resistenti alle intemperie. Lintenzione
del designer era di creare un intreccio
fitto ma che respirasse che ricordasse
lintreccio usato per fermare le cime
dormeggio delle barche alle bitte che
desse una sensazione di leggeri ma al
tempo stesso accoglienti nidi dai toni
naturali su cui rilassarsi.

A macro-reproduction of an organic
fabric: a coffee filter, seen under the
microscope. The search for a combination of natural patterns applied to
the industrial world. And so is born
an innovative fabric both in terms of
style and texture that is applied as
an enveloping layer to the aluminium
frame of armchairs, sofas and rocking
chairs. At the same time and at a
macroscopic level, a layer is formed
from a three-dimensional braid,
tripled in thickness, altering the
visual perception and giving rise to:
the creation of the outdoor mat.

VIEQUES
Una reproduccin macro de un tejido
orgnico: un filtro de caf, visto bajo
un microscopio. La bsqueda de la
combinacin de los patrones naturales
aplicados al mundo de la industria.
Nace un tejido innovador por la
tipologa y la textura que se aplica
como una capa envolvente en los
sillones, sofs y mecedoras entorno
a las estructuras de aluminio. De la
misma manera aumentado a nivel
macroscpico se propone en forma de
capa formado un trenzado tridimen
sional, triplicado en la altura lo cual
altera la percepcin visiva dando paso a:
el nacimiento de la alfombra de exterior.

Mikroskop. Auf der Suche nach einer
Kombination von natrlichen Mustern
mit industriellen Anwendungsmg
lichkeiten. So entsteht ein in Art und
Textur innovatives Gewebe, das die
Alu-Gestelle von Sesseln, Sofas und
Schaukelsthlen wie eine Hllschicht
umgibt. Auf die gleiche Weise,
vergrert auf makroskopische Ebene,
wird das Gewebe als dreidimensionales
Geflecht mit dreifacher Hhe
vorgestellt und der optische Eindruck
verndert. So entsteht ein Teppich
fr den Auenbereich.

Nasce un tessuto innovativo per
tipologia e trama che viene applicato
come rivestimento avvolgente su
poltrone, divani e dondoli dalle strutture
in alluminio. Nella stessa maniera
ingrandito in modo macroscopico si
propone a layer formando un intreccio
tridimensionale, triplicato in altezza che
ne altera la percezione visiva: nasce
il tappeto outdoor.

For Kettal Hella Jongerius designed

a club garden set named BOB,
a reinterpretation of the typical
garden club chair. The aluminum
frame has a sturdy dark look from
the front but surprises at the back
with an elegant, light construction.
The seating is formed of soft and
voluminous ribs which are accented
with visible stitching. Winded yarn
is used for the detailing of the
armrests and on the handles of
the BOB footstool and side table.

Kettal un set de club de jardn
denominado BOB, que no es sino
una reinterpretacin de la silla club
de jardn tradicional. El chasis de
aluminio de color oscuro le confiere
robustez por la parte frontal, mientras
que la parte trasera destaca por una
elegante construccin ligera. El asiento
est formado por suaves y voluminosas
varillas, acentuadas por puntadas
visibles. Para el detalle de los repo
sabrazos y los asideros del reposapis
BOB as como de la mesa lateral BOB
se ha utilizado cordn retorcido.

piquages apparents. Pour le dtail de
laccoudoir des cordons torsads sont
utiliss ainsi que sur les poignes du
repose-pieds BOB et sur la table
auxiliaire BOB.

5 YEARS

FINISHES

For domestic use, all products, except for cushions, covers and fabrics, are guaranteed
for a period of five years against any manufacturing defect that affects their suitability
for use. This applies to normal conditions of use and maintenance. This guarantee does
not apply to faults or imperfections resulting from the passage of time or normal wear
and tear. Circumstances not covered by this guarantee include, but are not limited to,
the fading or change in shade of colours, changes in wood texture, scratches resulting
from use, etc. For non-domestic use, by the hotel and catering industry and collectives
for example, all products, except cushions, covers and fabrics, are guaranteed for a
period of two years. This guarantee is subject to the same conditions as outlined above.

Garantia general 5 aos: para un uso domstico, todos los productos, excepto las confecciones,
fundas y tejidos, estn garantizados por un perodo de cinco aos, bajo condiciones normales
de uso y mantenimiento, contra cualquier defecto de fabricacin que afecte la funcionalidad
de los mismos. Esta garanta no cubrir defectos o imperfecciones que resulten del paso
del tiempo o del desgaste resultante del propio uso. A modo meramente ejemplificativo,
esta garanta no cubrir decoloraciones o matizaciones de los colores, cambios en la textura
de la madera, rayas debidas al uso, etc. Para un uso no domstico, como hostelera y colectivi
dades, todos los productos, excepto las confecciones, fundas y tejidos, estn garantizados
por un perodo de dos aos. Esta garanta se ofrece en las mismas condiciones anteriormente
mencionadas.

Allgemeine Garantie 5 Jahren: Auf alle Produkte gewhren wir bei normaler Pflege und
Verwendung im Haushalt, eine Garantie von fnf Jahren gegen jede Art von Herstellungsfehlern,
die ihre Funktionalitt beeintrchtigen. Ausgenommen davon sind, Polsterelemente, berzge
und Stoffe. Nicht von dieser Garantie gedeckt sind Schden oder Mngel, die aufgrund der
Benutzung im Laufe der Zeit bzw. durch Verschlei entstehen. Nicht erschpfende Beispiele
fr Schden, die nicht von dieser Garantie gedeckt werden, sind Verfrbungen oder Abtnungen
der Farben, nderungen in der Textur des Holzes, bei der Verwendung entstandene Kratzer
etc. Im Falle einer auerhuslichen Verwendung, wie z.B. im Hotel- und Gaststttengewerbe
bzw. in Gemeinschaftsanlagen, gewhren wir auf alle Produkte, ausgenommen Polsterelemente,
berzge und Stoffe, eine Garantie von zwei Jahren. Fr diese Garantie gelten ebenfalls
die oben stehenden Bedingungen.
