Objective: Without reference materials, be able to list and
describe three jobs within the community. Overview: Students will discuss their desired future jobs, and write a short paragraph about the job. Students will include information about the job, the relation to the community, as well as why they chose that job. Materials: Internet access, computer, projector, powerpoint, journals (or regular lined paper) for each student Audience: The students in this classroom have different ability levels, therefore the activities provided can be altered to the specific needs of each student. The teacher or any instructional aids may need to assist students who are beginners. We also would have them slip up into two groups. Teaching standards: Equity: Quality professional learning focuses on equitable access, opportunities, and outcomes for all students, with an emphasis on addressing achievement and opportunity disparities between student groups. Design and Structure: Quality professional learning reflects evidence-based approaches, recognizing that focused, sustained learning enables educators to acquire, implement, and assess improved practices. Procedure: (9:00-9:45) 9:00-9:05 Welcome students, play video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufxGw8EqY5Q) 9:05-9:15 Begin discussion on the video, tie into jobs the students want in the future You may ask the following discussion questions What job do you see Mr. Ray doing? Why is this job important? How does this job relate to the community? Would you ever want to do Mr. Rays job?
9:15-9:20 Show powerpoint of job titles with pictures
The powerpoint is designed to help students recognize common jobs It is laid out so that the picture will appear before the words will Have the students share what they think the job in the picture is Then show the students the word associated with the job 9:20-9:25 Give the students some time to think about/discuss jobs they may be interested in. Have the students get out their journals. 9:25-9:35 Once the students have all picked a job begin discussing the descriptions of the jobs. Have the students write about the description pertaining to their desired future job. 9:35-9:45 After the students have written about their future job descriptions, have them write about the jobs importance to the community. Assessment: Students will be informally assessed by their ability to discuss the jobs presented in the powerpoint.
