Duyer Butler County, bio NEWS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 18, 2010 Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones announced today that 15 Sheriff's Office employees will be given layoff notices today, February 18, 2010. ‘The Sheriff's Office budget was reduced in 2009 and again in 2010. Because of the budget reductions the Sheriff's Office has been forced to layoff five (5) deputy sheriffs and ten (10) corrections officers. The officers in question began receiving their layoff notices today, with an effective date occurring in about a month, Chief Deputy Dwyer stated “We continually track expenditures and it became obvious that layofs were needed in an attempt to meet our restricted budget. This is just a frst step, if revenue and expenditures remain constant, additional cuts may be necessary.” In 2009 the Butler County Sheriff's Office laid off several full and part-time staff members. Since those original lay offs, vacated positions have also gone unfilled. Counting the recent lay off notices the Sheriff's Office has eliminated approximately 50 positions since the beginning of 2009.
