We belong to God, we belong to God.

People of God, come close. You who have been far away,
draw near. Christ has broken down the barriers that
separates us from each other. Come close, together we
will build a house based on reconciliation and love.

God of all, you have brought us so near to you that we can
claim to live with you in your household. We open our hearts
to your peace; we open our consciousness to your call to be

another. We pray this faith-filled prayer:
Our Father, who art in heaven...

Community and Justice Work

Essential Voices
There is an excited buzz in the air as artists gather to receive their
share of the proceeds for their art. The silent auction at River
Bend Integrated Community Ministries annual 10x10 Community
Art Project in Saskatoon has just ended.
Look, your mom is a paid artist, comments one artist with pride
to her young daughter upon receiving her 50 percent of the sale
price.
The program grew from the vision of River Bends community
minister, Janet Clarke, after seeing a similar program in British
Columbia. It inspired her to suggest that people living in poverty in
the core communities of Saskatoon could be given a voice by
expressing themselves through art.
The art program is an extension of River Bends Essential Voices
initiative, which seeks to give a voice to people living with poverty
and an opportunity to share their stories. The community social
justice ministry provides canvases and art supplies and
encourages people of all ages to participate. After a month, the
artists return the canvases to the ministry and their art is displayed
at local galleries, St. Andrews Theological College, and local
congregations. People have the opportunity to bid on the art in a
silent auction.
The ministry is supported in part by us, the generous people of the
United Church, through Mission and Service. Our gifts give voices
to people who are often not heard by the wider society. Thank you.

Mighty and tender God, our gifts to M&S help your church
to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with you.
