Woolton Show Schedule


THEME: WOOLTONS FINEST
Class 1 Eleanor Rigby Trophy awarded to the WI member
with the best exhibit. Basket for Granny containing 3 edible
items.
Presentation and three edible items only to be judged.
Accessories allowed.
Please note: All items for judging must be removable
INDIVIDUAL SECTION
Entry Fee: 35p per entry (1 for 3 entries)
1 point will be awarded for every entry brought for judging
10 points for first prize
8 points for second prize
6 points for third prize
PRESERVES
All preserves must be correctly labelled, dated in full, and in
PLAIN jars, NEW lids or wax disc with cellophane if
appropriate.
Class 2 Jar of Fruit Jam (state fruit)
Class 3 Jar of chutney (state type)
BREAD MAKING
Class 4 A Speciality bread

BAKING
Cake, unless specified, to be baked in size and shape of own
choice. All cakes to be delivered ready displayed on a
disposable plate of a suitable size. No Fresh Cream filling or
decoration.
Class 5 Three Pieces of a Tray Bake
Class 6 A Victoria Sandwich
Class 7 A Swiss Roll
SUGARCRAFT AND DECORATED CAKES
Please note items in this section will be judged on
Decoration only.
Class 8 A Sugar craft Cake topper
Class 9 Five Decorated Cupcakes
COOKERY
Class 10 A Woolton pie (see recipe below)
CRAFT
All items to have been finished in the last year and unworn
and be the bona fide work of the exhibitor.

Only one photograph per member. All photographs must
have been taken during the last year.
Class 21 A Woolton scene
FLORAL ART AND HORTICULTURE
Class 22 An Exhibit of fresh plant material/flowers
Class 23 Cut Home-grown Garden Flowers displayed in a
childs welly
Class 24 A Patio Container
Class 25 A pot plant

LITERATURE
Class 26 A poem or Limerick about Woolton

CHILDRENS SECTION
Class 27 - A Mr or Mrs Spoony ( a character made from
a wooden spoon)
Class 28 - A funny character made from a vegetable or
piece of fruit
Class 29 Three muffins (undecorated)
Recipe for Woolton Pie
For the filling:
1lb (450g) of diced potatoes
1lb (450g) cauliflower
1lb (450g) swede
1lb (450g) carrots
3 or 4 spring onions or some sliced onion
teaspoonful of vegetable extract
1 tablespoon of oatmeal
chopped parsley
For the pastry:
4 oz (113.4g) of wholemeal flour
2 oz (56.7g) lard
Method:
1. Filling
Dice up the vegetables
Place in a saucepan with just enough water to cover
Add the oatmeal and vegetable extract and stir
Cook for 10-15 minutes
Stir occasionally to prevent the mixture from sticking

Remove any excess water and allow to cool


2. Pastry
Place the flour into a bowl
Cut up the lard and rub into the flour with your fingertips until
you have a breadcrumb like consistency
Add a tablespoon of water to make dough
Roll out very thinly
Put the vegetables into a pie dish and sprinkle with chopped
parsley
Cover with wholemeal pastry
Bake in a moderate oven until the pastry is nicely brown and
serve hot

NOTES AND RULES :


A maximum of one entry per member per class is allowed.
All classes to be delivered to St Peters Church Hall for
judging on Saturday 12 September 2015 between 9. 00 am
and 10.00pm. All exhibits must be unpacked before being
handed in for judging and collected at the end of the day
after 4.30pm.

WOW WI cannot be responsible for any items on display


and would suggest that any valuable items be adequately
insured by the exhibitor.
All craft entries must be the bona-fide work of the exhibitor
and must have been finished in the last year.

WI Rules apply to all exhibitors unless otherwise stated, and


all finishing and presentation guidance can be found in the
handbook ON WITH THE SHOW (2012 edition)
available from your WI secretary.
