FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Memphis, Tennessee July 20, 2015 On July 18, 2015, Troy Goode died after being arrested by the
Desoto County Sheriff's Department. Mr. Goode was a 30-year-old chemical engineer, a devoted
husband, and a loving father of a 15-month-old son.
Troy attended Christian Brothers University, where he received a Bachelors of Science in Chemical
Engineering with honors. After graduating from CBU, Troy worked for nexAir, a local industrial supply
company. As a plant engineer, Troy custom-designed a 3,500 square-foot hydrogen gas plant operating in
Memphis. Troy was an animal lover and often volunteered his time working for local charities such as the
Family Safety Center of Memphis and Shelby County.
On July 18, 2015, at around 7:45 p.m., Troy was arrested by the Southaven Police department, apparently
for disorderly conduct. According to eyewitnesses, Troy was held down by multiple police officers and
hogtied. After paramedics arrived, Southaven police strapped Troy onto a stretcher face-down and still
hogtied. Troy was then transferred by police away from the scene, and he was eventually taken to Baptist
Memorial Hospital-Desoto.
At around 9:00 p.m., family members who called Baptist were informed Troy was in stable condition, but
that they would be arrested for obstruction of justice if they came to the hospital to check on him. Less
than an hour later at 9:56 p.m., an employee of Baptist called Troy's wife, Kelli Goode, and informed her
that Troy had passed away.
The family has retained Ballin, Ballin & Fishman. The family's attorneys are actively investigating Troy's
arrest to determine exactly what caused the death of an active, healthy, 30-year-old man. The attorneys
are concerned with the amount of force used in Troy's arrest and troubled by the police officers' conduct
toward his family and the public. Eyewitnesses to Troy's arrest have confirmed that Mr. Goode was
hogtied. Eyewitnesses have also stated that Troy was saying, "I can't breathe" while strapped face-down
to the stretcher. The attorneys are aware of at least two cell-phone videos taken by bystanders at the
scene. According to eyewitnesses, officers threatened to arrest anyone taking cell phone footage of Troy's
arrest or the restraints being used by police. Attorneys for the family ask that anyone with a cell phone
video or anyone who may have information about Troy's arrest or death contact Ballin, Ballin & Fishman.
Tim Edwards and Kevin McCormack, the familys attorneys, are sending a letter today requesting that the
Mississippi Attorney General conduct an investigation into Troy's death and the conduct of the officers
involved. The familys attorneys are also requesting that the United States Department of Justice
investigate the use of force by the Southaven Police Department.
