Project Load Flow Analysis

Due date: July 7, 2015

1. Project Description
The IEEE 30 bus test system shown below is a portion of American Electric Power system
(in the Midwestern US) as of December, 1961. The power flow data in IEEE format [1] are
available on the website of the University of Washington [2].

2. Design Procedure
A. Download the power flow data for the IEEE 30 bus system or one can also find them in
the handout (the same folder of this project description). The required information for
building up the system, such as system base, bus voltage, and transmission line
impedance, can all be found in the data file. Choose the proper connection types for the
transformers by yourself and create the system model in DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
Note that bus 1 is the swing bus.
B. Run the power flow program and obtain the bus, line, and transformer input/output data
files that you prepared in part A. Compare your power flow results with the given
results from the IEEE 30 bus system data (part A).

3. Submission Requirement
Write the project report, which includes all the figures, tables and necessary description that
may explain your work. Submit the case file(s) (.pfd) together with your project report.
Make sure that your files work on any PC which has properly installed PowerFactory.
Submit a hardcopy of your report during the class hours and a softcopy by email (including
the .pfd and .doc or .docx files)
