MULTI-MEDIA AUTHORING TEMPLATE

Name: Joshua Sumperl

PART A: Students will work in groups and will utilize creation of a video in a way to educate around a topic either through
introduction of the topic or re-enforcement for the topic. This creation will be done with either Movie Maker Live or Screencast.
Students will need to incorporate a video of an expert on the topic within their video to support what was said by the student.
Groups will show the videos in class at progress check points. Other students will then critique the groups work.
Grade Level: 10th-11th
Content Area: Chemistry
Technology Used (check all that apply): Movie Audio Podcast Vodcast Other: (list)
Content Area/Grade/Standards/Topics Addressed: Chemistry/10th-11th/ All GPS standards could be addressed
using movies and other video types. / Students will focus upon Arrhenius, Bronsted-Lowry Acid/Bases, Strong vs. weak
acids/bases in terms of percent dissociation, Hydronium ion concentration, and pH Acid-Base neutralization.
Brief Description of Learning Experience: Any GPS standard can be addressed through this exercise. In the
assignment students will focus on GPS chemistry standard SC7. Students will create a video to instruct others about an assigned
topic. The teacher will introduce how the students will create the project using a brief overview of Movie Maker Live and
Screencast. Students will have a week to complete the assignment. The video content is focused for a student audience. The
students work will be assessed by both students and the teacher. Both students and the teacher will be assessing the information.
Students will assess the aesthetics of the video and how easily it was understood.
Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: Movies fall under a LoTi level of 5 depending on how it is
utilized. An indicator for this could be utilizing the video through inclusion of an expert whether through an interview or
incorporation of a clip from an expert speaking on the topic itself.
Importance of technology: Multimedia authoring tools will allow outside visual information inclusion into the project
that one might not have access to. It wouldnt be difficult to do this project without this technology, but the quality could be
lower without it. Not utilizing this technology one loses the ability to bring in outside visuals into the assignment. The only
technology needed for the assignment would be a computer, internet access, and the software.
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Issues that could arise would be related to inappropriate information when
searching the web. Students privacy shouldnt be at jeopardy due to no visual of the students or their location being present. To
help protect the students school computers have protective programs to prevent inappropriate content from coming up. The video
will not show the student themselves just information on their screen or what was put in. Students will be required to follow all
of the school and district internet policies.
